PostSubject: Howling Ghost in the Night   Howling Ghost in the Night EmptyMon Oct 07, 2013 2:15 pm

Around the forests of Shadowdale, loud howls can be heard in the night, the howls of wolves. Any guards or farmers that might happen to be near the edge of the Shadowdale forests, would see strange creatures, with glowing runes on its fur, on the edge of the forest, just behind the first treeline, though it's hard to keep track of the amount of creatures there are, as they move in and out of view, though there seems to be at least two of the strange creatures patrolling the forests, waiting, watching to see what the response will be from the city.

Mark hears rumours of strange creatures near Shadowdale, knowing that a while ago there was a weird storm he would be on alert whenever he heads out during one of his walks.

Iwean would indeed manage to get an encounter with the strange creatures, however it's them that find him, as he nears then forest, their howls and sharp growling would warn him that in no circumstance is he to enter the forest, as he's within viewing distance, he would notice that indeed there's at least two wolves, though with some glowing further in, there might be more, however the two near him know are both rather large, and the glowing symbols seem to make it slightly hard to focus on any specific detail to focus on.

Unless Mark gets to close to the forest, he's in no danger of having a meeting with the strange creatures. Should he however get close, he'd get the same treatment as Iwean, sharp howls and growling would warn him not to get any closer, and to turn around.

When word of this reaches the militia camp Rwolf gathers a patrol together to insure no harm is being done to the folk of the Dale. Before setting out sends a runner for Taeron to let him know of the situation and where he planned to take the patrol. Once at the edge of the woods he will consider what to do.

the creatures are not seen leaving the forest, however, it seems as though they're always there, just behind the first few layers of trees, watching, observing, and keeping anyone away that gets to close to the forest.

Once agen on a seemingly Radom night, in a Radom week, on any given month some thing new happens a few days after the bugbear attack. Late at night Ravossel starts to hear howls about her small Druid style camp in Harper's hill, that she has been calling her "grove" Both Doonleen, and Ravossel stay on high alert, and for now waits to see what happens next.

The forces of elven archers that guard the woods would keep a close eye on the wolves.  The moment any of wolves posed to be a threat, it would be shot.

Warning shots would be sent out toward any of the wolves attempting to prevent people from entering the woods and if the wolves attempt to take other measures, they will be put down.

If the wolves continue to do nothing but be annoying, the archers only continue their watch, not interfering.

The people of Shadowdale become more and more concern as the livestock is not taking well to the ominous noise.  The chickens have stopped laying eggs and the cows are not producing as much milk.  A growing crowd of farmers have made their way to the temporary government offices and have taken to demanding something be done or they'll have to head out to hunt the beasts themselves.  Glamerie is doing all she can to keep the people calm and to assure them that measures are being taken.

With the Mayor and the Elven Archers arrival and with no instructions or acknowledgement from her, Rwolf sends two runners back to the militia camp to inform Taeron of what is happening and asking for additional troops to check the Farms to make sure all is well.

// OOC Note: The archers didn't "just arrive", they've been there the whole time. This is their reaction to what's going on.

The Mayor isn't there either, she's at the Old Skull trying to keep the farmers calm. I'll edit the post to make that clearer.

Captain Chandler of the Black Hounds makes an uneventful pass through the forest encountering nothing more substantial than a handful of ant glands. She does stumble upon an alter protected by a great number of dire wolves many miles away from the reported area.

Everyone that manages to actually get through the forest, and anyone interested enough to actually get close to any of the sources of the glow which isn't the two most forefront wolves, would see that there's marking on a lot of trees deeper into the forest, all of which seem to be made from some kind of glowing material, likely some form of plant or mushroom.

Most of these symbols are unreadable to all but a selected few (Druadic), however among them are also symbols in Sylvan, all of which tells anyone to stay out of the forest, and to not anger its protectors any further.

The warning shots of the elven archers only seem to have angered the wolves even more, however it's clear to any of the elves that these are not ordinary wolves. And the wolves also retreat out of sight. However, during the night, the elven camp suddenly becomes the central living home of many swarms of insects, strangely enough, the insects target whatever food the elves have first, rather than biting the elves, not to say the average elf doesn't get their fair share of bites though.

And upon the arriving of dawn, one unfortunate farmer would find that the same has happened to a small area of his crops, all infested with bugs having a buffet.

The Knight is given the same warning as everyone else, howls, and sharp growling that he is not to enter the forest. His tiger would also show reluctance to go near the forest.
Should the wolves come under attack from the archers, the archers would strangely find hitting the wolves rather hard.

tjhyland wrote:

The Wolves keep their distance from Iwean, however Iwean would be in a constant state of unease, as the glowing marking all around the forest seem to sway with the wind, and any of them could be the wolves as well.

Seems this so called Captain must consider himself lucky, to have been in an area where the wolves wasn't, at the time

Watching infestation of the Elven camp Rwolf comes to a quickly decides to act. Sending two men north up the road with instructions to advise the farms on the western edge of the Shadowdale Woods to evacuate to the militia camp for their safety as soon as they can. In addition any members of the militia that the two men meet are to be told to assemble at the unfinished North gate. As those two head north he picks another man as courier to the Militia Camp.

Commander

While awaiting further orders and additional forces the situation has become more dangerous, on my own I am asking that the dalefolk living along the western edge of the Woods evacuate to the Camp for their Own safety. I will remain with the three remaining troops at the unfinished northern gate and maintain watch over the Woods. The Elven archers that are here seem unable to engage the strange wolves in the Woods to any positive effect. In fact a swarm of insects has infested the Elf camp in what appears to be a direct result of the Elves action. In addition the runners sent north had instructions for any militia they come across to form with me. I suggest that any reinforcements be sent with flasks of acid or burning oil to combat the insects as a last resort, and some Mages and Clerics wouldn't hurt.

I have no direct evidence but feel that this has some connection to the Shadow Druid attack on the town not long ago. I suggest that Mylanis Lyon or Garren Smolder be contacted about the Shadow Druids Staff.

These things often go away of their own accord, but additional troops just to reassure the farmers would help. I await your further orders sir

Rwolf Sterling

Gives the message to the runner and tells him that after a copy is made by the duty clerk see that it goes to the Mayor and the House of Plenty.

A slim short elf living most of the time at the ranger's camp decides to investigate the matter further, he aproaches the sings in druidic and sylvan and read them carefully to see what they say and maybe if there is an explanation of all this.
If he contacts the wolves as well, he will try to speak with them, see if the wolves are druids as well in wild form or companions of some druid.

The howling awakes the spirit in the woods, guardian of the dryads. He opens his eyes and separates from a tree nearby, listening to the sounds of the wolves. With massive sword resting on his back, he makes his way towards the event in the woods to investigate its cause. Sylvan is like his native tongue.

Most of the signs that are written in Druidic says the same as the ones in sylvan, though some of the runes in Druidic are also old symbols meant as protection symbols, to protect from intruders and any further investigation into the matter would yield that these symbols in particular is infused with small amounts of magic, though the purpose is unknown as the spell cast seems dormant.

The wolves are indeed there once the Druid enters the forest, however they move fast in between the trees and bushes, so it's hard to keep track of them. However from the size of the creatures, they are both big, dire wolf size one might estimate. However unless the Druid is able to see through the magics of Druid wild shape, it's hard to determine whether this is an animal, or something else. Though fine it is indeed an animal, it's intelligence level is abnormally high, even if it behaviour is similar to that of a normal wolf.

The man would find the same as those before him, signs and symbols telling people to stay out of the forest. An to not anger the guardians of the place. He would also spot at least one of the wolves patrolling the forest, however he would likely be able to determine that this isn't a spirit, but rather a normal creature of flesh and blood, however it does seem to be more than a normal animal. The man is also given the same treatment as those that came before him, howls and sharp growling as the wolf moves around in the bushes just within viewing range.

The elf casts a true seeing with the hope of be able to see the true nature of the animals (if any) and start to speak in druidic and sylvan.

As the Druid prepares to cast the spell, the wolf less out a sharp yip, and as a trigger, some of the nearby runes, such as the ones infused with slight magic, triggers into a strong light, slightly blinding, and within seconds, both wolves are out of sight.

Seeing the strong light in the night in the distance, Lyon makes his way towards it source. Once close enough to the elf who wanted to hear the message of the wolves Lyon speaks: "Night has many secrets. And this one is still uncovered. Are you alright?" Lyon gives a worried gaze upon the Elf, and to his health. His eyes has a slight glow in dark, like a cat.

With another night of howling in the very off distance both Ravossel, and her sister Donnleen(Tiger) perpaer to head off this night to the were the howling is coming from. After the two ward them selfs for what they may face. The wards that are used are all the primal wards, Premonition, superior resistance, endure elements, and Owl's insight. Donnleen also gets a few wards her own, Awaken, Endure elements, and energy immunity electrical. (( thes spells last from 20 hours to 24 hours )) When Ravossel, and Donnleen finly reach fox ridge Ravossel takes the forum of a Dire Wolf. Side by side the Dier wolf and the Tiger walk though Fox ridge as stealthily as they can trying to by pass all the Gnolls with out a fight, all the while keeping a eye out for sudden attacks. (Hide 25, move silently 16, spot 41, listen 39)

When the two finly make it to the Ranger's the odd pair gives it a wide birth, as they make there way to the river's Banks. The rangers by now should be able to recognize Donnleen as Ravossel's companion.

When the " sprit " wolfs look over both Ravossel in her Dire Wolf forum, and Donnleen. They may or may not " see " the wards Ravossel cast about three or so hours ago. The tiger stands along side Ravossel with both love, and affection. Confidence can be seen her starts as well, as she, and Ravossel scan the woods across the river for any signs of the " sprit " wolfs. After they watch the pure for a bit of  time, they should since no anger, or agretion for the paire, but some thing odd would chech there eyes. Both Ravossel, and Donnleen would seem to have a faint diven essence about them. ( exalted companion, and wild shape )

After about ten or twenty minis the two would slowly cross the river into Shadowdale woods, and wait bye the river's bank for them to make first contact. As they slowly cross the river Ravossel would have Donnleen stay by her side, and not to attack unless she says so.  While Ravossel waits comly she'll look over some of the trees with the wards scrib on them. Checking on the tree's health (Survival 36) then looking the Ruins over that have been place upon them.
