To Tame Wild Things Empty
PostSubject: To Tame Wild Things   To Tame Wild Things EmptySat Mar 08, 2014 2:16 pm

At the crack of dawn, Asteria exits the House and walks towards the open plains. Instead of being in her usual mithral plate, she's clad in simple leggings, boots and short sleeved shirt. Over her shoulder, she carries her pack, shield and axe. Entering the plains, she kills whatever enemies she may face and then takes refuge by trees or in foliage.

Rather than focusing on the orcs or trolls, she stays mostly off the road and once in a while, drinks an invisibility potion. She doesn't seem to be hunting those usual enemies that she despises so much but rather, seems to be looking for something and is definitely scouting around thoroughly.

She pays the most attention to the animals. While not a ranger, she looks around for hoof-prints and other tell-tale signs of wild horses around in the area. When not scouting around, she keeps an eye out for orcs and trolls. If she's able to catch a break, she sits down with her pack and leans back against it, laying in the grass.

Between her daily watch and drilling of the guard, the warrioress still scouts around the plains for wildlife. She leaves hand fulls of food along some of the trails and in grass: pieces of apples, hay, oats and sugar cubes. Every once in a while, she whistles lowly and watches for far off signs of movement in open spaces of grassland.

Following one of these trails, a hooded figure garbed in assorted leathers, carved wood and furs keeps their distance upon sight of the woman, long enough to try and determine just what it is this being might be doing before decidedly approaching. (Any invisibility would be seen through with her See Invisibility spell should Asteria still be cloaked in said potion enhancement.)

She stepped closer before removing her hood, allowing a messy red mane to tumble out as Lhanir regarded the woman with a polite smile, her tone warm and curious. "My friend... judging from your patience you must be searching for something quite specific. Might I ask what is it you're tracking?"

Asteria, not noticing she's being followed, continues her scouting around the plains. She doesn't seem be interested in fighting the orcs or trolls still and only seems to fight when she needs to. Lhanir might see her wield a longbow to take hostile enemies down if they charge at the woman.

When she hears the druidess, she turns around and glances to her. At first glance, she tenses, seeming uneasy, raising the longbow. But, when she sees her lower her hood and speaks, the warrioress relaxes. She chuckles and grins. "Ya startled me. Forgive me." With that, she secures the bow back over her shoulder with her other weapons.

Asteria gives her a slight smile and nod when Lhanir approaches. "Well, ya see, m'lookin' 'round fer wild horses. Though, in truth, I haven't seen any so far." She pauses. "An' I guess I ain't so good at trackin'. But, m'glad ya think I have patience. Must mean m'doin' somethin' right." Her tone is warm and friendly in return as she speaks.

Roman uses his time scouting the orc plains and beastmen woods for larger, organized concentrations of them to help Asteria with her search. Having grown up herding, breaking, raising and riding horses all his life... he knows the tell tale signs of a passing harras in the wilds... obvious hoof prints... particular fleshy leaves and berries they like, leaving signature bite marks on the plants... scat and such. He is continuously in the shadows when on his scouting runs and would do his best not to spook the horses should he come upon them. he'd instead watch where they graze and drink and ferociously murder any orcs that try to do them harm.

"Apologies," she responded in amusement, "I'll work on avoiding startling you next time."

A nod followed as she listened to the woman's words, casting her glance about at the grasslands briefly as she considered just how many or few of the wild horses wandered those parts. A few seconds passed before she returned her gaze to the woman. "You wish to ensnare a wild horse? Is there perhaps a reason behind this, or are you searching for a specific beast in particular that was since lost to you?" Behind her words there was a hint of intrigue, but also a lacing of disapproval.

"It's quite all righ. Not yer fault. M'always watchin' over m'shoulder these days." She chuckles. "Actually, really more of an old habit."

She watches the druidess' gaze drift about the grasslands. "Naw, not ensnare, lady." She shakes her head. "I'd never try ta do tha'. I'd try ta earn's one trust than by force. But, I will tell ya m'reasons gladly. But, no, I haven't lost one."

The warrioress returns her gaze to Lhanir. "Ya see...there's a caravan about willin' ta sell me silver weapons nearby. They only asked tha' I try ta catch a couple mustangs for them ta use fer ridin'." She sighs. "But, ta be honest, the reason m'doing this is not fer weapons. But, I promise ya, t'caretaker fer t'horses is a good lass. She was takin' good care of their draft horses last time I seen them. They looked pretty migh' healthy, too."

The tall woman shifts from foot to foot awkwardly, sighing and rubbing her neck. "An' while I ain't crazy about takin' animals out of their home...m'doin' this because m'hopin' if I do this...they migh' be willin' ta take me north. An' there be very good reasons for tha'. Not only tha' but because I really need ta talk with their smith. An' t'man doesn't seem ta want ta talk unless I do business with them."

As she speaks, the druidess may detect real fear and nervousness in Asteria's voice, face and expression. But, the whole time she says this, she's no doubt being open and honest with her. And really, she seems very deeply troubled for a moment.

To Tame Wild Things Empty
PostSubject: Re: To Tame Wild Things   To Tame Wild Things EmptyTue Mar 11, 2014 7:48 pm

Standing idly beside the woman in the grass, the druidess appeared almost entirely at ease resting in that position, as if willing to do so for hours on end were it necessary. Such patience mirrored her caring attention upon Asteria, waiting until she was finished before Lhanir hummed lightly in thought, mostly to herself.

"Strange," the redhead mused aloud. After another pause she continued. "You need silver weapons, but they want wild horses, and you also wish a ride to the north to speak with their smith? This is certainly an odd grouping of events... but for what purpose? You needn't tell me if you do not wish, as it is none of my concern, but the wild horses are."

Lhanir shifted her stance finally, turning a bit to face the grasslands before them. "You say you don't desire to remove them from their homes, but can you trust these folk to care for them as you would? Horses are not always a timid creature, their passion for freedom and open fields is unmatched by many wild children... and the only means of riding them is to in fact show them your friendship, or break them.  Would you accept that they would be broken spirits as a trade for your silver, friend? Or do you know these folk well enough that they would find another means to care for these wild beasts." It was an honest question, searching for an honest answer. Seeing as the woman had been open enough thus far, the druidess felt little need to hide her own opinion on the meaning of freedom.

Asteria seems to relax once more, giving a long pause after the druidess speaks. Her eyes roam over the grasslands and folding her arms in thought over her chest, she gives a nod, clearly considering her words. Her brown eyes return to Lhanir, as she considers her answer. "Yeah, I admit it is strange. But, more like t'smith won't speak ta me unless I give them t'horses." She sighs. "I hope tha' makes more sense. But, I will tell ya, as ya have given me no reason not to so far." The warrioress turns and meets her gaze. "But, know tha' it is very personal an' highly important ta me."

"Ya see...I am half-Uthgardt on m'father's side. But, he never would tell me wha' tribe he came from. An' while I know it may not matter to some...it does ta me." Her brown eyes hold Lhanir's gaze without hesitation. "I wish ta know more about my family. I grew up outside a tribe an' never got tha' whole experience. M'kind of the oddball an' I hate it. Taeron knows where he came from, so did Soren...I really just...want--no, need to know. T'only way I know how to do that is to head North an' find out for myself."

"I have no idea if ya can or will understand that but it doesn't matter. It is something I have to do ta live in peace with myself fer t'rest of m'days." Her determination and strength bleeds into the tone of her voice.

"But, I understand yer concern. I understand my purpose migh' be selfish...but, I rarely get ta do things for myself." She gives a wane and dry smile. "In fact, this is t'first thing I have done for myself since I've been here."

"The truth is, lady, I respect these creatures more than a lotta humans. However, m'answer is...yes. I do trust these folk ta take care of them righ an' I think t'lass tha' takes care of them earns their respect not through breaking them but with the offer of her friendship." As she speaks of freedom, Asteria seems quite serious and the subject seems as important to her as it does to Lhanir. "I think they wouldn't be broken spirits but well loved companions tha' girl will adore because her father yells at her an' she has no one else to turn to."

Her brown eyes lock fiercely onto the druidess. "An' tha' is why I think they will be treasured. Not broken, not abused but as friends fer tha' lass. Again, ya may find me selfish an' fer tha' I am sorry 'cause I am not that type of person."

To Tame Wild Things Empty
PostSubject: Re: To Tame Wild Things   To Tame Wild Things EmptyWed Mar 12, 2014 12:06 pm

A small chuckle escaped the druidess as she leveled her gaze with the woman's own. "You have every right to want to learn more about yourself.. to dig deep into your roots and find your origin. Sometimes there are obstacles in one's way that must be unfortunately overcome to continue on your path... life is not without sacrifice.

"I trust that you would certainly respect these wild animals, and I also trust your words. If I were to say it is going to be easy then I would be the untrustworthy one." Lhanir smirked teasingly. "I cannot stop every person from trying to tear animals from their homes, but in a case such as this with your word, then perhaps the beast may come willingly and I will not have to interfere."

She stepped closer to the woman and pointed off into the distant fields west of where they stood. "A small herd runs and frolics in the plains often in that direction.. you can study not only the tracks but the lines of grass that have been eaten. They do not stray too far from water sources. If you wish to find a companion for this girl you speak of.. I would suggest trying to befriend an older mare, one that has already offered her womb to offspring in the past."

Lhanir turned to face the woman again, the corners of her lips curling to form a small smile that she so often wore. "As for your tribe and kin... I wish you the best in finding them. Not everyone gains such a chance to discover themselves."

But, I want ta overcome whatever stands in m'way on this. I don't think I could let up now. Not when m'this far into it. But, things like this...aye, does come with sacrifice."

"I thank ya for trusting me an' m'words," she grins at the druidess, "'cause it makes things a lot easier on me. Sometimes, my honestly gets me into trouble. But, I know this won't be easy." She gives a nod to her. "I hope they come by will an' not by force. Certainly don't want to do things tha' way."

She watches as Lhanir steps closer and her gaze travels to the direction she points in. The warrioress takes her advice in silence, listening carefully and not speaking until the druidess finishes giving her advice.

"Thank you. I'll try ta do so. I think tha' would be t'best choice for her as well." She gives a smile to the woman. "She actually reminds me a lot of myself at her age. I bet she'd love a mare ta ride during her travels."

Asteria turns to her and gives a smile, then offers out her hand. "Thank ya again, lady. Means a lot ta me an' I migh' need t'luck." She raises her brows. "If there's anythin' I can ever do for you, please let me know, eh?"

PostSubject: Re: To Tame Wild Things   To Tame Wild Things EmptyWed Mar 12, 2014 6:32 pm

Recognizing the conversation as coming to its end, the druidess extended her own hand to take hers in a light handshake, such things not as familiar or traditional to Lhanir as she was used to after having been living outside of civilization for so long. A nod followed Asteria's words before the redhead responded.

"There may or may not be things to do in the near future, and I may or may not hold you to that generous offer," She says with a playful wink, "But I will still keep an eye on things, albeit from considerable distance in the hopes that all plays out as it should. Not as a means to insult you but rather to fulfill my own duties as a druidess. My name is Lhanir, and I wish you Nature's Blessings in your endeavors." Lhanir waited patiently should the woman decide to offer her own name before she would turn to depart, striding towards the nearest line of trees before disappearing between them with ease as if they were unable to block her direct path.

Asteria shakes her hand firmly before releasing it. She doesn't seem to mind that Lhanir isn't familiar with it; it seems a genuine gesture of thanks and kindness from the warrioress. She smiles and steps back when she releases her hand.

"Fair enough, lady. But, know that it is there should ya ever need a hand." She grins at her. "I ain't offended one bit at all. I understand an' respect wha' ya need ta do." She gives a nod. "In fact, it's good ta know there's someone with common sense an' kindness out in t'wilds."

She inclines her head politely. "M'name is Asteria. Good to meet ya. Tempus keep yer weapons sharp an' yer path safe." With that, she watches the druidess depart between the trees and smiles to herself. Then, she picks up her belongings and turned to head back to the House for the remainder of the day.

Once in a while, if Lhanir wanders the area, Asteria leaves packed lunches for the druidess between the trees during her scouting trips and her search for the herd of horses the druidess mentioned.
