After spending many hours in Sorcere studying the literature that can be found there, Yathrin Neer'yl and the Faern Zin begin to try and decipher all the information and draw a few conclusions that might lead to
a plan on how to repair the Portal Network.
When asked to explain the difference between Faerzress teleportation and Node Door teleportation,
Zin stammers and answers that he has no experience with teleportation other than to simply use a Portal
and therefore is himself unsure of the difference. He then states that one of the other Faern, perhaps one of the Quel'Faeruken, might know more.
They return to studying the wealth of information in Sorcere, as Zin's attention is drawn to certain passages in certain books. He points them out to Yathrin Neer'yl respectively..and respectfully.
Node Magic:
"Whereas teleportion in the Underdark can be influenced by Faerzress radiation, Earth Nodes can be used to enable stable Node Door to Node Door travel, as well as having medical enhancing abilities."
"Two locations are known, one in Szith and one in Maerimydra, but others can inevitably be found strewn through out the Underdark (a partial justification of Faerzress complications)."
Faerzress and the Underdark:
"Sschindrylyn largely responsible for the creation and control of the Portal Network."
"The Fall of Menzoberranzan led to Network collapse... portals being stolen, moved to other locations, or being re-tasked."
Zin takes a moment to conlude that while it may appear to be a problem that could somewhat easily be corrected with a better understanding of the mechanics of how the Doors work, and how to task and re-task it's destination, there are other, much more problematic, possible influences at work. He then points to a book and specific passage within.
Glouroth's Chasm (Wailing Cliff):
"Seismic incident sundered the route from the Lake of Shadows to Maerimydra."
"Created a Planar phenomenon, the border between the Material and Shadow Planes being thin."
"The Shadow Dragon Glouroth has chosen to remain in the Material Plane...his presence may affect (possibly amplify?) negative effects of Faerzress teleportation and planar travel"
"It is rumored that in the past, a Priestess of Lolth had a relationship with Glamouroth..who then allowed travel through his domain."
Zin looks at Yathrin Neer'yl and states that while he could cast Enlarge Person on her, he doubted that she would be large enough for a "relationship" with the Shadow Dragon. After being blasted with Negative Energy for his insubordination, he shakes his head dizzily and returns to work.
He states that while all the books in Sorcere offer much helpful information, a certain dissertation written by one Raye'Khan of House Dabel'kith is probably the most useful...in that he contemplates on certain problems, therefore giving insight on how to possibly solve such problems.
Effects of Shadow
Faerzress and the Random Maze:
This lengthy dissertation contains a wealth of information from possible influences on Faerzress noting that Negative Energy Obelisks that can be found which may bypass Faerzress resistance to extra-planar travel, to a possible way to find Maerimydra by using triangulation. It is even suggested using known Surface locations to find it's corresponding Underdark location (an example of the surface Twisted Tower and the Underdark House Dhuurniv is listed). Other geographical points of interest are also mentioned that might aid in finding Maerimydra, as well as information about a trade report and a half-illythiiri failing to fulfill a passage agreement with Glamouroth. It also notes that a package from the Yath was later successfully delivered and accepted by kir-lanas for their master.
Zin takes a moment to point out that it is not stated from where these Yath that delivered the package are from. Are they from Szith? or Maerimydra? possibly Sschindrylyn?
A slight headache from so much reading leads Zin to ask Yathrin Neer'yl permission to be dismissed, that he may rest a bit and have time to organize all the information, also giving her time to decide how she will act upon the information. Permission given, he retires for the cycle.
