Old ruins in the Comanthor Empty
PostSubject: Old ruins in the Comanthor   Old ruins in the Comanthor EmptyMon Sep 08, 2014 11:40 am

In a dark, cloud covered night, the priestess of Sehanine, Morna'nique Silvershadow, and the occasionally-adventuring gentleman, Piak Lacerda, on one of their usual exploration trips, discovered an old, ruined well within the Comanthor, near the notorious Fangs of Malar. Underneath it, they found the entrance to some old underground ruins.

The richly ornamented doors that welcomed them in the entry room where a bit of a personal shame for Piak, the experienced thief. No locks, no visible levers. The two carefully examined the whole room, looking for inscriptions on the ornamental carvings on the wall, hidden levers or compartments.
They also tried to determine which kind of architecture they faced, hoping it was elven, here in the Comanthor.

Morna'nique is a well educated elf, and an expert especially on elven history (high lore). Piak is quite interested in history too, but lacks her experience on the matter. He makes this up with keen eyes and a feeling on where things may be hidden (high search & spot, a good lockpicker).

Nique takes her time looking over the walls brushing some layered dirt aside here and there. She looks for any markings or symbols she might be able to identify. She leans to a fallen piece of rubble to contemplate on the mysterious room.

Later they even tried to stand on different squares on the floor and knocking the doors but the only response they got was an eerie silence.

After hours of careful search and scribbling of notes they decide to return later. As the initial search did not yield any results perhaps some study and contemplation would give some answers to this mysterious ruin deep in the woods.

Nique would find out that the ruins are definatly elven in origin. Build sometime before the Weeping War.

The Walls would depict numerous references to the Seldarine.

After some time they meet in Y'Landrothiel. Engaged in conversation on the comfortable sofa they eventually reach the topic that has been tickling their minds for the past days – the mysterious ruins.

Old ruins in the Comanthor Inn-meeting

N: I've gone through my notes and pondered on the sights beneath the moss and dust. Though faded, I think I know what they were. I think we were correct in assuming the ruin was elven based on those intricate doors.

P: Hah, knew it! I assume we could find some old maps in the library, to check what it might have been... or did you already do that?

N: I'm not entirely sure what exactly it might be as I can't place it on a map. I did write down some symbols and markings I found from the walls and based on them I'd say it has been there for a long while. Built probably before the Weeping War.

P: *he nods* And you are sure it is uncharted on old maps? Or did you just have difficulties localizing it?

N: I believe that those somewhat faded images on the walls, at least the ones I managed to make clear enough, were depicting the Seldarine. I am not sure if maps from that time has survived here and also I have no idea where we were really. The distance and the direction.

P: Maybe a temple... *he nods* I can try to help you with that.... and we best ask in the library. I would be surprised if there were no old maps but who knows what survived the attack. We best try to localize it from the elven camp, with a modern map, or try to find another landmark that would not change so quickly, like a mountain or the river.

N: We can always ask. *she nods* I haven't yet done so as I needed time to go through my notes and meditate on the findings. The doors do puzzle me somewhat. Of course it is possible they were locked by magical means but somehow I would have thought to notice such or they could simply be blocked from the other side.

P: *grumbles slightly* Yeah... kind of a professional insult to me. My guess would be a password.... but who knows if the magic still works.

N: A passphrase could be it or another way in. It is also possible that we came through a roof of some room in a bigger complex and that room was dedicated to the Seldarine. That or it is a temple. There was nothing else left in the room but the walls. Those are the only indication. Anything else has most likely been carried out. It has been there for so long that robbers must have stumbled upon it before.

P: So, if we don't find a way to open the doors, we just dig into another room?

N: I don't think we need to do that. There could be another entrance somewhere in the thicket. Perhaps we should head to the library.

They head out and direct their footsteps towards the library deeper in the city.

Old ruins in the Comanthor Meeting-walking

First they search the catalogues and then walk around the library in search of their goal. Eventually they come to the conclusion that it's best to ask a librarian if there are any maps of the Cormanthor before the Weeping War and if they could access them in hopes of finding a crucial piece of the whole puzzle.
