Travelers passing through the Crossroads, Fox Ridge, the Shadowdale woods, and the Edge of Cormanthor might find a disturbing or worrying sight at times. When the sun falls below the horizon and night sets in, great wolves can be seen walking the length of the river. Some of them are dire wolves, patrolling the shores with bristling caution, while others are of a more spectral, haunting variety, lupine phantoms that lurk in the shadows and keep their gazes on the water.
One beast in particular - a semi-corporeal figure with crystalline spikes, odd brands, and even a third ghastly eye centered on its forehead - seems to be unique among them, a silent guardian. Every wandering wolf but this one seems to ignore travelers and hunters in the area, and this creature growls and paces to discourage people from the water's edge, but the boldest would find themselves left free to do as they wish.
