Greetings, players.
Some of you probably remember me from way back when. I've decided to come out of the shadows of the past and help out as a DM once again. Here's a bit about me:
I have been playing D&D since the late '70s (think I got the original box game with the cheezy swirled dice that came with a crayon and with a rule book that had more typos than anything I have ever seen in about 77 or 78). I have DM'd PnP for a bunch of that time (though, lately, I don't have a group and haven't had any players around me for a looooonnnngggg time
). I have been playing nwn since nwn1 came out many moons ago and have been on staff of some really great (at least to me) servers over the years of playing. So I do have a pretty good grasp of the concept of D&D
. Nowhere near infallible, mind you...I am old and forgetful, after all
.
What I hope to help out most with:
I love short, "spice" events for small groups. Always have. Always will. The factions and guilds have (or will have) DMs that will be concentrating on them, so I will try and get to as many of the new players and/or new characters that do not have access to those type of events. So, if you see me online, I could pop up and toss something weird at you at any minute. Impossible to know what to expect cuz I'm like the Spanish Inquisition...no one expects me. But I do try and make things fit the mood of the conversation I see before hand (I love seeing players RPing while grinding or dungeon crawling). These are the things I enjoy running, so it's a safe bet that this is what I will do most of my online time.
I also plan to help out as much as possible with the tech stuff players always seem to need. I'm talking things like RCRs, language help...anything that can be "fixed" through the client.
Basically, I want to be there for the players if and when they need help or look to be bored. To that end, I will break the norm a bit and openly post my playerside account. I am BedlamX when playing. If you see me on playerside and need something that you can't seem to catch a DM on for, I have no issues with you sending me a tell asking if I am free to pop on the client and help out. I do ask that you please respect if I happen to be involved in something at that moment that precludes me from hopping over to DMness. I will make a note of the message and, if we are both still on when I am free, I will get back with you to see if I can help and if I have time for your particular issue (some drag out and I do work early in the mornings). The only other issue with my DMing time is that I am on call for work quite a bit and, if called in, I will have to drop things and go. As such, I will not do any huge things while I am on call. Remember folks...they pay me...this doesn't.... cash always wins
Event etiquette for me: I don't really have much of one. I try to go with the flow on things. The only things I don't care for are lots of OOC stuff and people magically showing up in remote areas during one of my events. Both tend to mess with my mojo and the vibe of what I am running.
Event types: I prefer small groups and short events (as stated above). I also prefer non-combat type events that use skill rolls and problem solving more than anything. I find these more fun and easier to accommodate differing character levels without the higher levels walking all over the lower levels. I also really like it when characters are cool with sharing the spotlight. It is always more fun for me to see someone shine in an area they should shine in and stay back in areas their character should really have no idea how to handle. My pet peeve with events is when one character just happens to be an expert on everything...and just HAS to prove it to the rest of the party. I tend to reward those that stay back when they shouldn't know something as much as those that step forward when they should. Know-it-alls...not so much.
Well...that's 'bout it for the old dude. Feel free to ask any questions you may have (PMs are prefered...or in game...cuz that's where ya should be
).
