Yori Corvain Empty
PostSubject: Yori Corvain   Yori Corvain EmptyWed May 18, 2011 9:36 am

Two full days have passed since a public but brief attack on the Outskirts of Myth Drannor sent tremors through the city-proper. The attack was spearheaded by a strange, pitchblack wizard that seemed to have no solid form to attack.

One of the Cities defenders was killed in an attempt to stop him before he used Gate-Magic to vanish.
More worrysome is the forces that accompanied this mage though: they were identified as Mezzoloths, the very same forces that once razed Myth Drannor in the Weeping Wars.

Little else is known, but whispers go that all this is in relation to a young human girl named Yori who was recently taken into the city for sanctuary. After the attack several elves left for the deep Cormanthor, only to return by magical portal and with a sleeping Yori a day later.

They seemed beaten and exhausted, but alive. What only a few selected patroling guards saw was a strange hooded woman walking through the city after nightfall, mending the damage done in the attack.

Only those who would visit the temple would hear another detail: Two days after all this - Yori has not woken up yet.

((replies welcome))

Alarice will make time to visit the sleeping Yori between guard patrols.

She will make sure that Yoris doll is tucked in next to her (if she still has it) and tell her stories from her time on the Sword Coast 10 years ago as well as talk about her children.

She'll keep up the visits for as long as Yori is asleep.

His duty and his mind is now with the little girl, and he is getting more and more worried. He listens to the priestess' worried whispers and stays near her, in her room sometimes, listening to her sleeping breathing. He talks to her sitting on the bed holding the half-grown hand, talking of Myth Drannor and what's happening, of what might happen if all goes well, what might happen if it does not; of the trees and the forests and the places he has seen in the years on the road as a sell sword and of the more repeatable adventures. He speaks of the Sword Coast and even, a little bit, of his happy and stable childhood long ago before the Ilythiiri. He tries hard to keep talking not sure of how to talk about trivia. He finds himself speaking of Lady Alarice. He imagines what it must have been like with her father Simon and the moving around. If the girl ever remembers any of what he's been saying, he's going to be slightly embarassed.

When Alarice is there they speak to each other over the sleeping form, not only of the girl and her need and her future but of the City and the Zhents and what is happening. Never of each other though his gaze meets hers with a smouldering something at times.

But mostly, there is fear that she will not wake up.

On the third day, he goes looking for Seth. Partly to make sure he had got out safely, and partly to let him know of his sister's condition.

The young girl Yori is now resting properly. She sleeps, and her guardians watch over her. She had been lost in her mind through dark magic and the Blue Mage, Lady Sayiel, Lady Alarice and Aleilsum had been through strange and dark places of the mind, haunted by nightmares who cut through all the defenses a normal waking mind possessed to the quick of a man's soul.

The girl had been saved and brought back to her normal mind. The unnatural sleep that sapped her body and sleep was broken.

The old scarred elf took the duty laid on him by Yori's mother and by his own heart seriously. Now he waited, as exhausted as the rest, by the girl for when she truly roused.

He hoped that her memories would fade like, indeed, a bad dream

Soon after the nightmares that left defenders and victim alike drained, Yori awakes, seemingly unharmed. She is hungry and eager to leave the temple after the long rest.

When asked about the things she remembers, she says she just had a bad dream...but there is a sad shadow within her eyes when she does, hinting she remembers more than she likes, or wants to remember.
Outwardly she has not changed at all, soon being cheerful and mischievous again as always. For those few who know and spend time with her, she seems more somber, at times simply staring off into the distance quietly for a minute.

Those who met the mysterious woman and remember her presence also notice the very same presence around Yori at those moments..something within her has awakened...

Sayiel would pass the more time she can with Yori to cheer her up, playing prank with her, but respecting those time when she seems distant, and simply patiently waiting for her to come back and be tehre if she needs to talk.

Aleilsum spends a lot of time with his ward. She is his sole duty, after all, and both his unadmitted inclination and his duty leads him to look after the girl. He is annoyed at times with how she seems to have crept around and into his heart.

It's hard not to smile with her around, wild as she can be. The Protector only knew if he was handling her well, but all he could do was hope and ask Lady Alarice and the Priestesses for advice.

He was concerned for her losses. She had had too many. He worried too for her future. Simon for all his care for the girl had not wholly taught her of right and wrong. Or manners, but they mattered less.

Now, after her Mother had talked of allowing her to grow up, he was even more concerned.

He spends as much time with her as she'll allow, even exaggerating his gruffness to amuse her. He follows the Armathor's advice too and reads up on moral stories from the library, retelling them to hopefully soften them into something not too annoying. He hopes some of it will stick when she comes into her power.

He finds, somehow, that he will miss her. He isn't looking forward to her going, for more reasons than one.

The Coronal received a very unusual request from the Armathor. At first she is inclined to dismiss it then she remembers some books the Blue Mage had given her. She reads them again.

Then she summons Yori, sits down and begins to teach the the girl how a sorceress controls magic.

A proud young Yori in a flowing red dress and with a cloak that is way too long for her (some might recognize it as the Armathors cloak) is seen frequenting the Coronal daily now.
Usually these daily meetings last an hour or more. They are mostly private between the mysterious human girl and the elven queen. Only her personal guard being present to tell what goes on there.

He keeps silent as a good guard should, but after the first day thick smoke was seen after the excercises..and on all subsequent days the guard has a new assigned task from his lady: to guard the room not with a blade in hand..but a bucket of water...

The days pass and few who do not know the tale of Yori pay attention to her presence in the city anymore. She has become a regular sight.
What is taught from Queen to child behind closed doors is kept jealously secret, but her friends can sense the change in demeanor and looks in Yori. She seems more regal and less childish (perhaps merely because she mimics the Coronal)

Where she was flighty and impossible to tame in the past she has begun to develop some regular habits, one being the training sessions with the Coronal, another the hours she spends with a scared elf rumored to be her appointed guardian.

Few know the lessons she is taught in tales by Aleilsum, but more and more often she is not in the city at night and long hours during the mornings, despite having an own rather comfortable room in the temple of the seldarine, well guarded by elven eyes.

She is never late for her lessons with the Queen, but after a few weeks rumors in the nearby farms rise that someone appears at night in the local orphanage telling fairy tales of elves and dragons and gods and entertaining kids that are supposed to sleep with tiny pranks and cantrips.
The kids keep it a gleeful secret who their new playmate is, responding only: "The Queen of Orphans" before running of to their carefree life.

Aleilsum is pleased with her and with the slow changes the time in the city and the intensive care are bringing. She will always be a free spirit, such a contrast to his own, and he never wants that to change but she is showing some signs of the lessons he so hoped would stick are beginning to sink in.

He knows of the orphanage visits and comes at times to collar her and drag her off in a ritual game of him growling and protests from the girl. Other times he pretends to not know where she is.

Still he teaches her cooking and hunting and armour and weopon maintenance and the tasks that any adventurer is supposed to know. Also lessons in wariness and trust and what to look for in liars and deceivers as best he can. Her innocence may be lessened by it, but it is far too dangerous a world for this young girl to not know these lessons. He hopes Alarice and Sayiel and the Coronal will give her lessons consciously or unconsciously in how to be a lady.

There is time too for fun; for swimming and games of chase and the growling banter between Villain and Brat. he does not know how long she will have now before the protective spells wear off but he will prepare her for those days as best he can. And .... he likes the girl.

Alarice observes from afar whenever she can, watching how the two interact with one another. Watching them swim and playing chase helps her to find a smile but it as all too fleeting a thing on her face of late.

She keeps her distance from them mostly because she doesn't want to grow attached to another child that may be gone from her life but also because her last meeting with Aleil had not ended as she had hoped it would.

Her recent visit to the Eilistraeean temple may also not sit well with him, assuming he even knows of it. Also, it is a conversation she does not want to have with him whilst she still has so much unresolved in her own mind.

With the permission of her guardian, Sayiel will teach the little girl some sense to find traps and other trick, such as lies, to spot hiden people... She will always smiles, some time give her some idea of prank to play so she would not lose her so beautifull and free spirit.

She will tale her tales of her childhood when she was still in Evermeet with her friends or other tales of freedom and of the elves she knows.
