Wyvern sighted

Last evening Swordhand Sarla and Vanguard Cobannon could be heard rallying some town folk after reports of a wyvern had been spotted in the area feasting on livestock. The group went to where the beast had been reportedly been free -- The Kobold mines North of town.

The group searched the area around the mine but only found traces of something rather large exiting the shaft. The Vanguard was heard yelling at one person responsible of freeing the beast. He was also heard requesting at least one swordhand be posted outside the mine, least the beast return.

All indications are that the shaft was blown apart by something that left burn marks all around, and that something quite large climbed out.

The farmer who lives nearby confirms the noise, and the sighting, and further complains that it killed and took one of her horses. She also notes that four or five people were present, though she can do little to identify them; the area was a cloud of dust and debris for some time after the collapse of the well and the emergence of the wyvern.

And the local Zhent patrol reports having responded efficiently and immediately to the problem. They claim to have fired crossbows at it with devastating accuracy, though to their amazement, the beast flew away regardless, carrying a horse in its claws.

The Vangaurd addresses the traffic around the city sqaure:

"The following people, for releasing a menace on the populous, are ter not leave the city limits until this beast is caught and damages paid.

I Evan Solanor was just going to the gnoll caves at Fox Ridge to mine for some gems.

Out of nowhere a big wyvern flew down from the skies.
It attacked the gnolls and not me, but I have met a wyvern before in the fire lizard caves that was always hostile so I acted on instinct and attacked.

The wyvern responded with his poisoned tail but I managed to doge just barely.
I started a blurry of tempest two handed attacks and thou none of the attacks wounded the wyvern gravely it fell from the onslaught of many wounds.

Meanwhile the gnolls had taken notice and attacked in great numbers.
I changed tactics and used the whirlwind strike effectively and decimated the gnolls.

When the gnolls had died I looked for the corpse of the Wyvern but it was nowhere to be found. Had I really killed it or had it fled by air?
