Construction in Rimwood Empty
PostSubject: Construction in Rimwood   Construction in Rimwood EmptyThu Oct 04, 2012 10:14 am

A flurry of construction starts in Rimwood, the dead trees that have been cut down start to treated to be used to make a dock. Word at the Oak is of a dock being constructed for trade reasons and to aid the movement of goods and people. Men are seen walking around guarding the construction site, they were no distinguishing armor or symbols, however they seem highly trained.

Work also starts on the hill across the river. A priestess of Selune is directing some dwarves to make a suitable Shrine there so she can offer her services to travelers as she works to undo the damage that the followers of Shar did in the area. A single Silver Knight stands guard in the area during construction.

At odd times noises seem to come from underground as well. It seems someone or something is tunneling under the area as well. What they are doing, or who is doing it is unknown. Yet neither the guards nor Selunites seem concerned by these noises.

A masked, hooded, and cloaked elf approaches and seeks any of the Ironhouse dwarves. He speaks in a hushed tone.

"I am here to aid in and oversee construction. The book mistress has commanded it. She regrets she is unable to greet you personally and has sent some of us in her stead. Should I be allowed to aid by her command then the mask stays. My name is Shadow, a pleasure to be here."

If he is allowed to wear the mask be begins to aid in the construction, if not he leaves with a respectful bow.

Mara would stand guard near the Oak. Offer the workers food and drink for their hard work. She would speak with Valtore. Should you need anything please let me know. Thank you again for coming to ~rescue~ me. Mara would wink to him with a grin.

Talvak Ironhouse will be seen often among the workers, tending their work injuries, and offering prayers to the Gods so they may be at their best during the construction work they are doing.

The heavily scarred dwarf will also be wary of any possible infiltrators but remains as joyful as ever, telling stories and entertaining people as he goes. Meeting with Shadow, he would look at him with a certain suspicion and walk away to go warn one of the elders that the man calling himself Shadow is there again and that he insists on wearing a funny mask. "Is he trying to scare us, or something?" He would ask, then rush back to work as he leaves the decision to those with power. Talvak does not seem to realize that being an Ironhouse allows him such a low level decision.

If he saw any Zhent or other abomination-like people wandering by, he would instantly alert the local authorities and request assistance from the closest troupe of human or dwarf guards.

Valtore meets with each person coming to the build sites...

To Shadow he says with a nod "your aid at make sure there are no incidents is welcome, just keep an eye out for any trouble Lad"

To the Circle of Nature he asks for any help they can be at culling and strenghtening the dead trees they are useing in the construction of the dock would be of help.

To Mara he says "well ye were in a tight spot Lass, but we saw ye through, hopefully the dock will make it easier fur the Oak ta do business, and a Shrine ta Selune benifits us all. Just be yur usaual charmin self Lass. I know the workers like to coll drinks."

When Garok arrives Val puts him to work in the Dock building helping sinking the posts into the water and make sure the rocks are soild, it's hard but honest work. And such that will benefit everyone.

He nods to Talvak in passing just asking the Lad to keep an eye out fur trouble, and help where he can.

Every day, the men watching the construction site and the workers inspect the tools and construction materials to spot any defects and to look out for things that might delay the construction. Any tools that seem to be unusable are sent back to the Ironhouse Halls and others are brought back.

The men have been instructed to watch for suspicious men and activities. Anything suspicious should be reported to Laurent, and if there is trouble or an attack, they will send someone to advise the dwarves.

As she happens to be there currently, merely passing among the others who work, or bringing around fresh water to anyone who might want some, the Book Mistress stops, smirking behind her mask as she addresses Karovir. In place of her usual dresses is a simple tunic and leggings. "Oh. Hello." Her voice is cheery and relaxed despite the bucket of water in each hand. "Well, due to some recent events and such, everyone in this area decided it best to make Rimwood a bit more fortified. Over there..." She points toward the hills where the ruins once were. "Will eventually be a shrine to Selune. Then by the water..." She points in the appropriate direction. "We'll hopefully have some docks that will bring some trade to the area." She finishes her explanation, gives him a polite smile behind her mask as she nods and walks off again. She spends the day giving some minor aid and support until she's needed elsewhere again. Other times, she can be seen sitting beneath a tree observing or doing paperwork outdoors in the shade, only stopping occassionally to bring around more water to the men at work.

Thorein seems to be working on a bonfire most of the time, but at some point he enters the Ironhouse mines, and is shortly after coming out, dragging a large boar. Once the boar is roasting, he enters the mines again.

Aerandir, a moonelf dressed in blue robes and a pointy blue hat, looks surprised at all the workers, sees Valtore, tips his hat with a smile and says:
"Good day Valtore, what a busy day. What's with all of these workers? ...Seems like alot of heavy work, and I've prepared plenty of enlargement and bull's strength spells as usual, if that's of any use?"

Thorein returns shortly after, rolling a barrel of bacon ale.
"Oy! Lads n' lassies, drinks n' food shall be plenty fer all o' ya goodfolk aidin' in the buildin'"
Thorein looks at the druids and adds with a sigh "... Same goes fer tha nature folk plantin' trees"

With the rising sun, it would be noticed that some of the dock work done has been damaged, notably the crane meant for placing beams into the water. The crane itself had its rope cut and the lever destroyed, as well, several pitch black arrows seem to have pierced into the wooden contraption.

Karovir would nod to the book mistress. "I see. Thank you for putting me up to date. Hopefully this will go well. I will patrol along here as usual and see how much progress they do." He then continues his walk.

A few days later he walks past again and looks at the sabotaged building site. "That doesn't look good. Did anyone of the workers know or see what happened?"

The Book Mistress was in time to see the site the next morning. She kneels near the base of what used to be the base of the crane. She stands after a while, muttering to herself as she looks over the ruined site. "Everything is broken... Black Arrows in the wood and dirt..." She seems to be listing things as she looks over things, after a moment or so, she frowns. "Was there no one here last night? I don't see any blood." She taps the black lacquer mask she wears with her nail as she thinks and continues looking over the site. She searches for blood, bodies or any sign of a struggle as she tries to piece together why and who'd done it. She pauses in her search to glance around. "Was anyone on guard duty when this happened?"

Mara comes out of the Oak.

Hmm well at least not everything is destroyed. This can be fixed and we can continue the work. We have plenty of timber to fix the crane and there is plenty of rope in the Oak should you need it

The attack having been late at night, there were no workers at the time, but a couple of guards seem to have gone missing. The workers don't seem too put down, as the setback is only a few hours work as they just need to fix the crane's lever and rope. The dock itself seems to be taking shape, with only a few more days work likely needed.

Valtore was on guard duty last night and is no where to be found. He seems to have been dragged off into the night, or maybe he wondered off following some girl. Either way he is no where to be found.

She sighs, standing and in stepping away from the mess, she grabs an arrow and stashes it with the rest of her arrows. Seeing that the others had things under control, she goes to make a few "house calls." She heads back to the halls to prepare such. As she goes about her business, she mutters something about the whole situation not quite sitting right with her. "Setbacks... I hate setbacks." She mutters.

Talvak Ironhouse walks around the workers the next day, a few hours after the sabotage has been discovered. He distributes words of praise to the workers and encourages them into keeping their high morale. Meanwhile, his keen yet often underestimated intellect works full throttle. Who did this? Why? How? Where's Valtore. Valtore?? Realizing that the Loremaster is missing, he gathers a few volunteers and starts looking for tracks or other clues of his whereabouts. Seeing that Shadow is already on it, and despite his natural distrust of the masked elf, he gives up and returns to camp.

For the next few nights, his plan is simple: ask Shadow to build him a hiding spot with a clear view of the construction site, and hide in it in order to stand guard unseen.

Once he meets Shadow again after one of the elf's patrols, he would approach him.
"Eh... Goooood Morrrning, err .. Shadow, I guess. Look, I don't think that people should walk around masked and all since it tends to create tensions and sow distrust, but all personal preferences aside, I have a favor to ask of you. Would you be kind enough to prepare a hiding spot for me to crawl in for the next nights? I would really love standing watch over the site at night for a while."

*with the crane down garok doubles his efforts in helping construction mainly by using his massive strength to help lift and manuver things while the crane is out of commition. Garok also uses enlarge person on him self for lifting some of the heavyer objects. He also goes about doing other hard labor tasks that he can, aparently happy to be helping out. Garok smiles as he works (witch is rare cause garok is usually depressed a lot) looking happy as can be to lend a hand.

((as an ooc note garok has 30 str unbuffed and a heavy load of 1600 lbs unbuffed, so that means he can lift up a small car over his head on his own. Just for reference.))
