| Though out the land, some new kind of illness seems to be sweeping the wild, causing sickly critters to appear here and there and clearly these poor innocent animals seem to be in a lot of pain.
The afflicted animals seems to have their joints and tongues swelling, large boils and furless patchs bleed a sickly yellowish pink puss.
What do you do? | |

| Grimfang calls upon his Goddess to find out if there is some source of this sickness. He sits down and prays over one of the sickly animals.
\\Grimfang follows Mielikki, he is a 17th level Druid

| Upon visiting the library he begins to search for illnesses that match this. He happens across a paper dated 22 Hammer 1377 that reports of a 'Mauve Death' or 'Death from Above'. A plague that affected the populace not so long ago. The symptoms are similar: - Quote :
- Boils on the skin in certain areas.
Puffy eyes and yellow lines down the white of the pupil. An omnipresent cough and a feeling of weakness all over the body and joints. There it is written that "greater restoration appears to cure the plague but the energy required to cast it". He begins to search further into reports of this Plague. Finding a second paper, it notes that a relieve for the pain of the 'Mauve Death' is a light source such as the spell Searing Light yet it only lasts for a short time. Another paper announces that Tarik Sedirae the Head of the Dark Thorn trading house aims to find funding for the plague. Finally he discovers a tome that recites the memoirs of both the plague victims and the clerics. The research into a cure and the resolve they came to. A cure for that plague was found and distributed. He begins to put his thoughts to paper - - Quote :
- This 'Mauve Death' or 'Death from Above' could be the cause of this new epidemic. A cure was found and distributed, but only to a sapien species. It is my theory that this plague has further mutated within the animal kingdom as we did not think to provide this cure to our pets and livestock. This new mutation has over come the direct effects of the the cure for the 'Mauve Death'. This would explain why that drug was noneffective during the early tests. Additionally, in my opinion, this mutation was adapting to the physiology of both wild and domesticated animals and not man. This could explain why it does not affect us. I can only further presume that my blood test experiment with prove inconclusive. I would expect that the mixed bloods will not interact and will show signs similar to that of mixing oil with water.
He puts away the library materials and returns to his alchemist lab. Sitting in the lab he watches as the candle light flickers and casts dancing shadows against the wall. He starts to think to himself. What of the druids? They have the power to physical become another form. Animals in fact. Are they in danger of contracting this plague? and if they are does it retain within them when they return to their sapien form? ...what if this could be used as a weapon? it doesn't affect us yet, but as a weapon it could bring an army to its knees. Tactically it could be the turning point in this war, the rebellion could free Shadowdale from the oppression. But the death toll, is it 'right' to kill a hundred to save twice or perhaps even tens times as many? He takes a red knight chess piece from his pouch, setting it on the desk and utters "Give me strength" before he begins to pray.

| The afflicted animals seems to have their joints and tongues swelling, large boils and furless patchs bleed a sickly yellowish pink puss. Ylia, spirit shaman , dedicated follower of Silvanus, hears talk of this spreading plague. Behind her pretty face and wild hair, she has a long and sophisticated relationship with nature, having grown up in the deep woods, almost totally alone. She has seen the works of Malar and the wonder of Silvanus, and the way that nature balances out even things like plagues. She knows that over population of animals breeds disease , as the weak are thinned out from the reproducing stock, while unseen fungus and Tiny life flourishes on a grand scale... Until balance comes again,... The stronger animals resist and overcome the disease , and in turn , the weaker of that disease form is thinned out from the reproducing stock... And she understands, calmly, that panic in folks all around her is no more than persons unaware of the balancing forces of the gods and ways of nature. Calmly, she seeks for the few creatures amid the infected , and begins to gather them, that the strong will overcome , and restore balance . She also seeks to burn all the fallen, to cleanse all trace of the disease, also knowing that the ways of folk are impatient , and want cure faster than nature will provide. As she works, she hums a little song that her mother taught her about the ways of nature..."big things, have little things... On their backs that bite and make them shiver ... And little things have smaller things... and this goes on forever!" | |

| Couple of months later:
A pleasant energy wave could be felt in the air. Those skilled in magic could recognize the act of forest guardians and high magic that could be done only through a ritual restores the land from Talona's blight, and that if any being is still infected by this is no longer capable of devouring any magic, and became subject to healing. The source of blight is destroyed, and so is now its influence upon the land. Animals do not mutate anymore, their rage disappears as they return to their natural form, and flora regains its natural colors as it is being healed. The Circle of Nature took the final measures in its hands after discovering about the ritual, and performed it in the grove before the Great Tree. New Sickness and the Blight era is now over. |
