Construction at Castle Krag

Fidheliss Unterminox can be seen atop Castle Krag's Northern wall one morning, alongside several figures.  He points at the wall where they stand, at a small clearing beyond the moat, to the castle's South-East corner, and at the mountain rising high above the castle.  After the discussion ends, Fidheliss returns to his room at the castle's inn, and pens a few letters.

The first letter, he writes to the owner of the inn itself:

To the owner of this inn;

This letter is to inform you that the entirety of your inn will be required in order to house a large number of civilian laborers, as part of an ongoing effort to improve the castle and its surroundings.  Your cooperation is expected and will be amply compensated.

The second, he writes to the head of the largest construction guild in Zhentil Keep:

On behalf of House Unterminox and the Zhentarim, the members of your guild are offered employment here at the Zhentarim holding of Castle Krag, at one of two distinct but concurrent projects.  All members will receive wages in accordance with guild guidelines, as well as an administrative fee paid to the guild-master, for the inconvenience of relocating part of his or her operation.

Construction materials will be provided on-site.  Transportation from Zhentil Keep will be arranged via portal courtesy of the Zhentarim.  Lodgings are being arranged as well.

Jack can be seen speaking to people in whispers, then those people leaving the castle.

Jack seems to have disappeared somewhere.

Niobara seeks out her father, talking with him quietly about this and that. Finally the subject changes to the construction atop Krag's nothern wall.

With your permission i will personally oversee the workers and take care of the tools they need. I spent a lot of time on forging the needed tools and it would be a shame to see them wasted in the hands of a clumsy fool.
Is there something else we need now father?

She falls quiet and looks questionly at Fidheliss

A letter returns to Fidheliss


Fidheliss of House Unterminox,

the guild is currently busy with a project in Zhentil Keep. So unfortunately we can't offer as much workers as we wish. The maximum we can send are about a dozen workers, males and females, for now.
As soon as we are done with our current construction project i will personally see to send more workers toward Krag. As for the payment, a workers gets 10 coins per day a guild master 17 according to our guild guidlines.

Having accepted the offer and sent word back to the guild, Fidheliss takes a moment to consider his daughter's question.

"We're going to be short on professional builders, only a dozen for now, and nothing was spoken of supervisors being sent along with them." He nods. "Oversee them. You will be sharing this responsibility with the young Private Smith, make sure the two of you coordinate your efforts." After a few moments, he then adds. "Except for our personal project. I want you handling that yourself."

Jack takes one hundred slaves, soon after conversion.

He meets with the Unterminox house and Private Smith to work on planning construction.

Private Smith starts talking to the slaves finding out what skills people have what expirence and starts to complie a list of names (their numbers) to what skills they seem to have or would be suited to learn. she would then report this it her Superior Lord Untermixox to see how he wanted the work force devided.

*Heidi Sheppard wanders opon the busy construction, coming back from her prayers to Loviatar.  She watches them work with a smile for a time, perhaps plotting something*

Upon hearing the words of her father Niobara nods.

"It will be done as you wish father. You wont be disappointed by my performance. I have learned a lot though your guidance and now the time has come to prove myself"

Her jet black eyes linger for a moment on her fathers face then she turns

For the time being my studies have to wait...but its worth it..once the tower is complete..i will continue on.

"Hail horror" she adds after some moments and hurries to take on her postion as overseer next to the construction ground

A small group of soldiers escorted by a cart filled with various tools and other items. The caravan looks a little damaged and the guards have some blood stains on there shields and tunics. As the cart and the guards make the way up to Krag they look about the area and seemed filled with resolve. Upon reaching the gates  the group would call out

"Hail Bane!"

One of the guards pulls out some authorization papers from Zhentaril Keep making mention of seeking out the leader of House Unterminox.

Once lead to Fidheliss he would begins to work with him in concern to the construction. If asked about the delay they would mention something about having to deal with some Helmites.

When news eventually reaches Jack, he assigns 60 of his slaves await word from House Unterminox.

Letter to Fidheliss wrote:

Lord Unterminox,

I have assigned 60 slaves at the disposal of Project Expansion. I would not mourn their loss, but do note that they are mine. I'd rather keep them alive to continue working for Bane. The Black Fang has progressed them through mass conversion. Until shown otherwise, they are to be treated as Banites. Slaves, but still Banites who serve.

On his morning and evening walks up and down the river, Crypto would notice caravans of wagons-workers-slaves etc. hiking their way from the river road towards Krag and get curious and come in for a closer look.

"Now what are those crazy neighbors up to this time? Perhaps they mean to outshine our construction! *a light goes off in his head (30 candle power or so)* HARK, back to the drawing board!!!"

He then proceeds to work on the design for a hot springs bath the likes of which have not been seen in these Dales before.

Fidheliss speaks with the head builder, quickly arranging for their accommodations at the inn and directing him toward his daughter, and promising to inquire about their troubles on his return.  As time goes on, more responsibilities are handed to her in such fashion, and the slaves are sent to her to direct as well.  Her father often stops by, and only asks her the most cursory of questions, to ascertain progress.

Then, one night, with packed bags in hand, the man in black and his servant are seen headed toward the castle's keep, and do not return for several days.  A simple note is left with the Weavemaster, only saying that he will be absent, but not on what business.

Jack sees the note.

"We'll see what trickery he is up to, later."

Then goes on back to training.

Zhentil Keep.

Lord Unterminox moves through busy city streets, a small, darkly-clothed figure following on his heels. On the North bank of the river Tesh, in the New City, he tours the port and various warehouses. A number of appointments are made, and the pair arrive for each in timely fashion.

Among the warehouses and amidst the market, he meets with a number of commodity brokers. He asks questions about the buying and selling of gems, ore, and worked metal goods such as weapons, armor, and tools, commodities that have historically been exported from Zhentil Keep and sold abroad via its port and caravans. He asks them where these goods would be sold, and what type of commissions one can expect to be charged for their services. Soon, he's made a short-list of preferred brokers.

From there, he goes to the guildhall of the skilled tradesmen working to rebuild the city's ruins to the North, the man to whom he'd sent a letter some time ago. He asks about the men sent to Castle Krag, including specifics - no doubt intending to conduct his own background checks once he's returned - and about buying out the contracts of a handful of them.

Shortly after this meeting, the two head North. A substantial bribe is made to a sergeant of the guards, and they are briefly permitted to climb to the top of the wall dividing the New City from the ruins to the North. Much of Zhentil Keep still lays in ruins a decade after the city's near-complete destruction. A leather-gloved hand points a single finger to a grouping of ruins far in the distance. He whispers to her that that is where he was raised.

The two descend, and they return to the markets.  Fidheliss now follows his servant as she moves from stall to stall with the quickened pace of anticipation, picking out fine furnishings for their new home.  Her master seems content to let her make decisions herself, deferring to her more sensible tastes and only asking that she limit the palette of colors.  At the slave market, a handful are bought, the two discussing between themselves for a time which ones would serve best.

Their final evening in Zhentil Keep finds them taking in a concert in the Old City before attending midnight mass at the Black Altar.


Castle Krag.

Lord Unterminox and his servant return.  He seems somewhat refreshed, and walks with renewed vigor.  He summons the foreman and asks of his troubles and progress made to date.  Then, happening upon the Weavemaster in the courtyard, he informs him of his meetings with brokers and the guildmaster... no mention is made of any more personal matters.

Jack begins a flurry of paperwork, and is seen going through the Arcanists, and judging their ability to be a part of a group.
