Request for Volunteer Craftsmen Empty
PostSubject: Request for Volunteer Craftsmen   Request for Volunteer Craftsmen EmptyThu Jan 23, 2014 10:03 am

The smith in Shadowdale can be seen being assisted by a number of militiamen, moving a large quantity of raw materials to his forge. He then hangs a sign stating that any new orders will be delayed as he completes a large order for the town's government. His forge illuminates his work for days as he hammers out the order, leaving plenty of time for anyone who might volunteer their time and skill to assist him. If asked about the work one of the militiamen assigned to help the smith with heavy lifting would explain that the Militia are being issued maces as a less lethal option to utilize than their broadswords.

Adventurers who inquire and are known to be trustworthy around the town would quietly receive further explanation. That with the undead threats stirring in Myth Drannor and the possibility of trouble bleeding over to Shadowdale's lands it was felt prudent to see the militia equipped to deal with skeletal foes. The lower lethality of the maces was decided to be an excellent reason to make the maces standard issue from this point forward, even after the undead threat passes. The extra expense worth the continued benefit. It is explained that to avoid panic that no public announcements are being made over what is only a possibility, and the adventurers are asked to keep their knowledge quiet for now.

The following notice is put up outside the General Store and at the Bulletin Board:

Craftsmen,

We have placed a large order for new equipment for the militia with the local smith. Due to the unusual size of the order the smith has agreed to allow volunteers to work the forge with him should any of you wish to donate your time and skill.

Secretary Lovich
in behalf of Mayor Glamerie

The notice bears Bryanna's signet; an armored bear standing upright while holding a poleaxe.

((Please note known trouble makers or adventurers completely unknown to the militia would not receive the further explanation. The undead troubles referenced are Carbuncle's MD events.))

Valtore sees the notice while shopping in town. He gladly offers his help to his cousin and is soon working with him forging maces. He suggests that the millita keep the broadswords in case monsters attack, "they be needin no mercy nor would give any when they over run tha defences."

As Aerandir often visits the Shadowdale forge, he offers his aid to the dwarf.
The two have spent many hours together as Aerandir forges full plates, and he should therefore be quite a familiar face, and as should the quality of his works.

Aerandir also brings his sister along, Amatria, who offers to entertain with a bit of music, ((+7 skills)) should this be wanted.

((To clarify, the maces are an addition not a replacement >.>. I've been asked a couple times about that. Sort of how a RL cop can have a gun, a taser, or a nightstick.. we're providing options here people! Now we just need Oprah to come hand out the maces... You get a mace, and you get a mace, and you get a mace.. e'erone gets a mace!"))

Valtore, true to his nature chats up the Lass when he takes a break from the forge. He gives Aerendir a bit of good natured friendly grief. He continued to work with the dwarf and elf on the massive order of maces.

Durmla will roll up her sleeves and assist with the work as well. She has less experience around the forge than the other two Dwarves (+3), but she works the bellows, scrapes slag, refills temper-basins, and pounds out rough blanks like the best of them. She teaches Amatria a traditional Dwarven song her family used to sing while forging to both help keep, and to help pass, the time.

Overall, she seems very content to be pushing a bellows once again.

Durmla is very much a mind-you-own-business Dwarf, and so she takes the public explaination for the weapons at face value, unless someone specifically mentions it to her.

Karan shows up, wondering if there is any work to be done involving making traps or mechanical devices. If there is, she volunteers her time.

When Durmla arrives and offers to assist Valtore would gladly start to teach her the trade if she is interested (craft 30+). He teaches her some of the secrets of the trade. If fact anyone who Bryanna send their way Valtore offers to teach some basics to, while following the lead of the Master craftsmen whos forge they are using. He continues to joke with the workers to keep the mood light and possitive. Singing a few crass bar tunes (quite badly even). When Blue stops by he tries to talk the wizard into lending a had. "Imagine tha surprise of a militiaman when he holds a mace with tha mark of Master Mage Blue on it! It will inspire him ta greatness!" Of course Valtore proudly puts his own mark on his work as well.

Durmla listens politely to whatever advice Valtore has to say, though she would likely surprise him with the occasional bit of occult crafting lore obviously beyond her expertise, and perhaps even beyond his...  Eventually, she would confess her role.

"I learnt what I have from my Pa; he were a master craftsman before I were even a twinkle.  I grew up me whole life with this trade;" She grunts while working the bellows "...but I never learnt where the hammer met the metal. Never took with me for whatever reason..." After hours in the forge, her forehead and cheeks glow red with the heat of the forge beating on them, and she never complains; truly she has spent her life around this fire-breathing beast. "I'll take what lessons I can, though.  But I can't guarantee they'll stick.  Haw!" She laughs heartily

"Pa sent me away 'fore I could truly learn the trade from 'im.  I took with me what I could, but the truth is, I've always been better at wearin' it than I ever was at forgin' it..." She smiles distantly at some memory, but her smile fades as she dwells on it.  Eventually she grows quiet again, and concentrates her efforts on fully assisting the Master Craftsmen in her company.

PostSubject: Re: Request for Volunteer Craftsmen   Request for Volunteer Craftsmen EmptyFri Jan 24, 2014 11:48 am

blue would smile at valtore and say

nay my friend tho marks normaly aren't removable the majority of folks have found away to remove them.. so I most often don't bother marking them any more its almost like people are ashamed of who they have smith or enchant now a days so now I rarely smith and almost as rare enchant anymore..

but I will smith up to five maces if needed this will be some of my last smithing work however as a gift they can select who to give them to..

with that blue heads to the forges pulling out his own custom tools rolled up in a leather pouch after he unrolled them he goes and straightens each in its own slot before staring to smith..

he begins smithing as he does he is unaware of what others are doing and often doesn't hear them talking he focuses on his work alone.. he doesn't accept help as he prefers to go thru the entire process his self..

he heats the metal and pounds the metal with a hammer folding it as he goes forming and shaping it into the desired rough mace shape and making it stronger with the folding process.. he would begin smoothing the handle and ball out so it becomes a smooth gleaming polished handle and ball form..

where other would have produced many by now he takes great pride in the last of his smith work before placing it in the molds and sealing them together he would pour a thick coat of melted iron into the mold thru a whole left in the mold giving it a final coat which will also provide it with the desired spikes to the ball..

he would pull it out after it had time to fully coat and bond with the previously forged blank mace tho a tad heavier than normal once cooled to the touch and hardened together he would polish it off and grind off the edges where the seems where with a metal file smoothing it out so much so that it could be compared to a babies bottom..

he goes thru each spike as well sharpening the tips just a tad so they have a point but it is still dull and blunt but gives them a shape.. he follows this up at the handle where he feels a tiny bump and begins wrapping a leather band of material down to the second tiny bump he feels...

he looks it over and smiles fondly at his work and nods he etches into his mark and doesn't let any one see the marks location.. he mockingly swings it a few times and declares it a masterpiece before setting it down..

a twinkle in his eyes a smile on his face he repeates the process five more times by days end he has a total of six maces five he will give the city and one he will add to his own collection being the last he would smith he didn't think they would mind a gift to him self..

as they were each marked he numbered them one through six he kept the number one mace his self.. he will place his in his families vault along side some of the best works his family had created..

as he is finished he looks around to see who he is to hand them to after he wraps them in a cloth to keep them separated from the others..

he may notice or not if any one is staring at him or watching him... as he finishes the wrapping the twinkle in his eye and smile on his face is gone and he appears to be his normal self again..

he takes the six to bryanna letting her know he is keeping one and hands her the other five telling her she hopes they are made use of as it is some of his last work smithing he will do..

he would take his number one mace and leave seeking to visit the shops before he left to go home..

Meri shows up at the forge periodically for as long as the call for volunteers is in effect. Although seemingly ill-suited for manual labor with a hammer and anvil, she contributes through the careful crafting of easy-to-follow instructions and molds for the other workers.
