Finally reaching Shadowdale, Cleo continued on into town, leaving Bryanna to attend to other things, sitting quietly in the House of Plenty, finalizing his lists, unaware of the pending battle outside.

After the battle, he was able to meet up with his mate only briefly, hastily handing Jay a scroll and watching worriedly as the proud dragon-man marched off with other heroes in the direction of the Twisted Tower, leaving Cleo to attend to more priestly matters.

He met up with Laura, trading lists of refugees and missing persons in Shadowdale and in the Morning Farms to cross-reference, one against the other.

Meeting with Laura:

He made copies, carefully comparing the lists, to understand who is where, who is dead, and who is missing.

In the House of Plenty:

He was unable to check the list against the bodies of the infected who attacked Shadowdale, since they were all burned, but his goal was to generate a list of missing persons, and, perhaps more importantly now, a list of those who are not missing.

After the explosion in the Twisted Tower, and an aftermath ensuring all are well, after picking through the mess the explosion had left his home, and after spending some time at rest, Cleo gets to work again.

Seeing that others have the big picture well in hand, he focuses on the small. He sends a copy of his comprehensive lists to the Morning Farms, another to Rimwood, and keeps another at the House of Plenty.

Then, as refugees return to Shadowdale, he sets up in Shadowdale East. He aids in the Sensing, but also in reuniting families, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], connecting them one to another amid the bustle of the crowds, and letting them know who among them is dead and who has yet to be found.

Cleo confirms with Imesah and Bryanna (([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.])) and they determine that the thirteen Dawnknights remaining in Shadowdale will integrate tightly with the Militia, pending Taeron's approval, with the exception of two, who are assigned to help Cleo with his efforts.

One of these two Dawn Knights is stationed at the Eastern checkpoint, and one at the Northern checkpoint. Their job is to simply take names of refugees and evacuees who pass and check them against the lists. Lists are frequently cross-referenced by Cleo, and people who were once deemed missing are checked off, when found, and reunited with those who are missing them.

Sitting in the House of Plenty, checking his lists again, Cleo looks up at Julia and gives her a little grimace.

"Ah. A little labor to rest my eyes is most welcome, though the reason for it looks grim indeed."

He takes the proffered mop in hand and sets to work.

"I need a volunteer or two, Julia. Common folk who are brave enough to move about, and who know lots and lots of the farmers who live north of town. We need to know who's still around, and let people know where their missing loved ones are, if we can."

Jonah also does his best to take names of those visiting the Hospital for Laura and Cleo's records. He is not always successful though, especially in cases where his concern for a townfolk's well-being trumps his concern for accurate book-keeping.

Her quest to find Julia finds Bryanna trying to catch up to her at the hospital and establish a dialogue.

You are most welcome here, Harvestmistress. I am glad that you have made it through this safely. Our meager hospital needs some basic supplies, and healing herbs... There are only just enough beds to go around as-is.

Forgive me for not directing people to the House of Plenty; I meant no disrespect to you and yours, but I had heard of terrible things that happened there, and thought it best to leave the temple be.

If you would like, I'm sure the people here would be very grateful to simply see that you've arrived again. Please, take a look around, and lend your aid where it is best used.

Cleo would greet Melorion with a smile, and would have departed northward with him, prior to Bryanna's arrival, intent on bringing answers to those who wonder what became of their loved ones.

To Melorion, he says: "Thanks for your aid, Melorion. I'll work the houses if you'll work the countryside. Fields, barns, glades. But let's stick to the Farmlands, for now, before venturing too far out of town. Try to get names, and get people back to their homes or into town, if you can."

He heads from house to house, working with Rwolf, should Rwolf arrive, and any other volunteer(s) obtained at the House of Plenty, giving out information about the locations of people's loved ones, and taking names to give to others.

More name-taking than butt-kicking:

Aware that some remains of the Shadowdale government had asked for an evacuation, but also aware that many will not honor it, Cleo provides medical care to any who need it, then suggests gently that the people gather their things and head southward.

More then a few pack up personal belonging and head to join the groups for the Lathander farms. It seems those who actually own farms are the ones refusing to leave while those who just work them are joining the groups leaving. Around town at the shops some folk just sit and watch people leave. When Cleo makes his way to the Potter he discovers the man hung himself while his daughter is lovingly placed in her bed also has rope marks around her neck.

When he learns that many people are opting to leave for the Morning Farms rather than evacuate to Shadowdale Central, Cleo stops under the nearest willow and writes new orders for the Awakened under his command.

- Imesah: Continue to accompany refugees to Myth Drannor, then return for more. Persuade those already in Myth Drannor to remain there, but escort back to Shadowdale those who insist on coming. The Morning Farms are not a prison.

- Arya: Myth Drannor. See to the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of the refugees, in cooperation with Szuldas, Helene, and the Mornmaster.

- Amasur: Shadowdale North. Attend the Dawnlord in his efforts. ((The NPC Dawn Knights will return to their work with the Militia, and aiding Jay, Jonah, and Laura in SD Central))

- Jero: Shadowdale Central. Aid Jay, Jonah, and Laura with Hospital/Refugee Camp.

- Keshala: Shadowdale Central. Aid Jay, Jonah, and Laura with Hospital/Refugee Camp.

All this is prior to coming upon the Potter's place.

Amasur is nowhere in Shadowdale or the Morning Farms. Since the plague started he wasn't already anymore, and didnt leave any report either.

Cleo stands, putting away his writing supplies. He brushes off his cape, hoists his satchel, and continues on, going from building to building.

When he enters the Potter's place and finds the father hanging there, twisting, blue-tongued, and the daughter in a nearby bed, the young Dawnlord sits heavily in the nearest chair and says the prayer to call forth the blessing of Sense Life, concentrating on each corpse for as long as it takes to know for sure.

If they're infected, he casts Dismissal on them. If not, he just sits there in the chair, staring up at the father, his face impassive, his thoughts his own.

After many long moments, Cleo stands and walks to any nearby dresser or desk. He very carefully and slowly looks for any papers, books, or objects that give the victims' names. If he finds their names, he records them on the lists.

Cleo stands, arms folded, regarding the hanging man again, for another long while. Then he takes out his knife, lifts the body, and cuts the rope. Far stronger than he seems, the little Dawnlord carries the man over his shoulder to his daughter's bed and sets him there on his back, beside his daughter. He closes the man's eyes and mouth. He brushes the daughter's hair from her eyes.

He sits down on the bed and, if he is able, calls forth the blessing of Gentle Repose for each. He sheds not a single tear.

Presently, he leaves the place goes to search nearby barns and sheds for a bucket of paint or tar and a brush. If and when he finally finds these things, or even if he only finds charcoal, he makes this marking on the door.

Then he moves on to the next house, bucket or charcoal in hand.

Some time later Cleo visits a house with a young woman. She opens the door for him and turns walking into her shack of a home. "What do ya want?" She asks listlessly.

Cleo sets his bucket and brush down and steps into the little house, likely not much different from the farm shack where he was raised near Daggerdale. He looks around, following the woman, but not too closely, concentrating on her as she moves to check her for infection.

"Your name, for a start, ma'am. I'm Cleo. Are you here alone?"

The shack has one larger bed and one smaller bed. A table and very basic kitchen. "Suzi, yeah I'm all alone now. My husban was in the militia but I haven't seen him in days and Tommy, my son..." she tears up a bit and continues to stir something on the stove. "..soon I will be joining them."

He stands behind her, looking over her shoulder a bit. Absently, he touches an old brass medallion that hangs around his neck alongside a nicer red one.

"What happened to your s--" He swallows. "to your son?"

Cleo notices some belladonna on the table that had been chopped up. Likely added to the soup the woman is now making.

Slowly, Cleo lets his satchel drop from his shoulder, setting it on the ground. He glances down, reassuring himself as to the contents...scrolls and antitoxins to deal with poison, disease and the like, yes, but also the lists he'd been making. He pulls them from the satchel. Quickly, he returns his attention to the woman.

"Tommy, you say?"

He scans the lists of refugees in Myth Drannor and Central Shadowdale, silently praying to find the name of a Tommy from Shadowdale, a militiaman's boy who's missing his mom Suzi.

A child is at the camp East of Shadowdale. He was part of a group that was found south of the road. He tells the story of how some milita grabbed him and his friends while they were playing:

"The Militia said if we acted good no one would be hurt. As we were leaving another man from outside stopped us. The leader of the Militia told the man to let them go or he would Kill US! But then the Militia man said he didn't want to hurt anyone, but didn't want to die either." the child tears up.

"then the man throw a bag at us and the militiamen started screaming out in pain and falling over...my friends were killed. the outisder grabbed me and threw me out of the weeds and told me to run as he attacked the Militamen." The child crys.."My friends are all dead now."

Cleo clutches the papers a little and supports himself with his hand on the edge of the stove.

He shows her the papers. "See that there? That's your son's name. Tommy. He's alive, Suzi. Your son is alive."

She just looks at the list then at Cleo.."Tommy's alive...he's alive? In Myth Drannor? Can you take me to my son? I have nothing here but nightmares. I never want to see this place again. The creatures...did things." She shakes her head trying to banish the bad memories. "Please Sir I beg you..take me to my son. Let me leave this place!"

"Of course. At once. If you'll gather your things and extinguish this stove, we'll be in town before nightfall. There, you can join a group headed that way. A man named Mark or a woman named Imesah will make sure you get there safely."

Once her stove is snuffed, her things are gathered, and that poison is neutralized, Cleo takes whatever he can carry to ease her burden, and they head South toward town.

But not before Cleo takes a moment with bucket and brush to paint a symbol on the door:
