The silence of the Ridge (Event Thread)

Those who travel to the ranger camp to sell goods or to rest for a few moments would receive a warning from the two rangers that occupy the camp. They would speak of a strange event on how the ridge fell silent and how it's occupants, both harmful and harmless, seemed to disappear for a brief time. They would advise those they could against entering.

The Rangers now tell those who travel through their camp, or come to rest to be careful of the Ridge. They explain that the ridge has fallen silent and Gnoll ambushes have occurred during these times. All wildlife, the wind, everything seems to vanish. Afterward returning to normal as if nothing had happened.

They ask anyone with information regarding similar events contact them so they can add it to what they know. (PM me, reply to thread, or find me in game))

Fist Encounter
- Ridge falls into silence.
- All wildlife and even the air moving the tree tops vanishing.
- Shadow figure appears with Gnoll ambush to follow.
- Shadow disappears during battle.
- After search of the ridge and cave nearby nothing out of the ordinary found.

Second Encounter
- Above mentioned silence falls over the ridge.
- A group is attacked and then killed by a mysterious shadow covered figure after a Gnoll ambush.
- The figure itself delivering a message before killing the occupants.
- All occupants remember everything after resurrection, however the message that was delivered was never fully revealed due to to many conflicts.

Third Encounter
- Human Ranger talks to Arch Druidess to try and petition for her help.
- During this the silence over takes the ridge.
- A man starts to play with pebbles but puts them back where he finds them.
- After silence leaves Arch Druidess reluctantly offers to join the endeavor into the ridge and adjoining forest to find out what is causing the issues.

The Watcher increased the frequency of his trips across the Fox Ridge. He would check in with the rangers. After delivering the rangers Message to Lhanir, he would inform them word for word Her Dismission of the situation and let them know they were on their own as far as she was concerned.
As well he would also increase the duration of the stays at the camp, ensuring the rangers had adequate support should the Enchanter return.

The rangers would thank him greatly. As the encounter did not directly affect nature they would understand Lhanirs decision. The rangers would provide meals for the watcher in return for his longer stays and extra vigilance.

Mith reports to the Male ranger at the camp, that once more the Watchers have come in contact with enspelled Gnolls. A warning was delivered and the messenger escaped. Whom ever is behind this is extremely powerful and while the Archdruidess seems reluctant to aid she might be convinced with a direct petition from the camp.


More often now Mith, the Watcher, can be found near the camp under the pretense of making stews for the rangers.

The rangers would offer the watcher and his companies a place to sleep, supply the food for the stew, and offer minor supplies to them to show their gratitude.

Contrary to what was heard, the Arch Druidess maintained vigilance in the area. If not through her own eyes, then with other pairs. She spoke directly to the Fox Ridge rangers during her latest passing through the area by their encampment, to hear the information directly from the source -rather than a suspiciously masked man who claimed to be helping- that she might gain further elaboration about what had occurred.

Arimus could be seen frequently traveling the area as well watching from the shadows, peering from behind trees, ever watchful in his gaze, sometimes letting his presence be known, when he wants you to know, putting in his tales of what he has encountered and seen.

After hearing the warning from the Ranger and experiencing the silence as well as witnessing Vaelin's odd behaviour at the scene, Caelam decides to keep a watchful eye on both the Fox Ridge and the Shadowdale woods, as he got the impression from the rangers that the "silence" seem to seep in from that direction.

He searches the areas to be best of his abilities, seeking to learn as much as he can, from searching for unusual tracks, or anything out of the ordinary as to gather as much clues on the situation as possible, leaving reports of his findings to the ranger at the fox ridge camp.

The Rangers of the camp decide to keep a record of the happenings. They ask travelers who stop for a rest to give them any and all information of weird or unexplained events in or near fox ridge.

With rumors swirling the Captain takes a routine patrol through the Ridge.  By his side his ever constant ,silent companion, the clockwork golem titan.  He would speak with the ranger on what they know.

On learning of the ambushes he'd return to Shadowdale and set up a response squadron.  Choosing 4 of the meanest brute veterans from the undead war they'd be ordered off patroling/guarding and ordered to stand ready by the Shadowdale wood gate.  A scout runner would be ordered to locate at the ranger camp.  On first signs of this silence the scout is to make haste to the four troops at the ready and send them to secure the ranger camp/caravan trade line.

A man named Garrett came to the camp. He possessed an item that would help in locating the being causing the strange happenings. He agreed to join the adventurers in their travels.

Mith sighs as he sits looking over the piece of Dragon scale now in his possession. The day had proved enlightening. He was not yet completely sure that this dragon was responsible for the gnollls but it also made sense as to why the source of the magic seemed so hard to trace. he was going to have trouble getting the elves to listen, already they seemed to hear what they wanted rather than what was said, but there was little he could do about that. A green dragon. Several sightings from around the dales. and now this scale? it had come from an old dragon.. very old. but it was not necessarily from the same dragon that was seen circling. Sloppy spells gave him pause on the dragons age. ancient dragons should not be sloppy on spell casting. he had said nothing to the others for fear of letting the dragon know that he knew. Interesting indeed. 10,000 gold for those that saw this through to the end. perhaps with enough minds a solution that did not require killing a dragon, could be found.

When arran heard rumors of the mass silencing he was intrigued to say the least, while a number of spell could achieve the effect, few were as comprehensive or massive as the rummor would purport. The distance from his workshop in the academy to the ridge being minimal, and while in no way was his timing....expedient but the deputy sheriff had a few things to ask of the rangers or any people that happened to be by and knew more.

Hearing more of the rumours of a dragon at the ranger's camp, Sordoc will alter his long patrol routes to keep an eye on the outskirts of Fox Ridge, as well as make enquiries at the ranger's camp, about such.  He does seem more interested in any description of the "Dragon", and of any rumours of where it seems to appear from.

He also seems to move his usual camp from the various spots Sordoc camps outside of shadowdale, closer to the Ranger's camp.

The ranger would let the interested parties who inquire know that the dragon has never been seen, merely a man claiming he had a scale from one has shown himself at the camp. The ranger would go on to explain how it would make sense with everything that has been happening but they have no further information.

As the days passed Mith would be seen in and out of the ranger camp, asking passer by's what they had seen. When the camp was empty of all but the rangers he would be setting in place wards to protect the camp from scrying. when the camp was full he would make stews and observe.

Caelam has set up camp with the Rangers in Fox Ridge. He learns of the new developments and occurrences from The Watcher and reaffirms his intention to help any way he can.

On one occasion, a group of Gnolls came too close to the ranger camp, possibly drawn by another traveler, but were no match for the High Forest Scout. He took the opportunity to inspect the corpses of the fallen Gnolls in the off chance they might contain clues.

During the time not spent resting or discussing matters with the Watcher or the Rangers, he patrols the Ridge, spies on the Gnolls and tries to observe anything out of the ordinary.

For reasons unknown to most, Caelam becomes a regular sight in the arena performing what appears to be quite unusual training sessions.

Anyone witnessing these session would see the elven archer attempting to hit small sized target objects tossed from the audience as he fends off the challenging illusions.

The gnolls seem to be acting normal. Spying would not produce any yield.

DM on hiatus so Mith and Co paused all rp until reroll can resume. Last talked with reroll this will get finished at some point.
