(( For OOC clarification, the camp has ways of seeing invisible people AND people walking stealth ((the scouts can see people stealthing [most of the time] and the incantrix can see unseen/invisible people)) so if you see them stalking INSIDE the camp unseen, tell them the guards would have seen them.))

Hearing of Milena and her story, the commander would inform the guards in camp to try and inform Milena that the commander desires to meet with her. Also, have Milena speak with Lanius, the camp representative to get a better feel for how the camp is. Until then, the commander looks forward to meeting with her and speaking further with her desires and to hear more of Milena.

//// The below is a personal written account of the trade caravan escort event mustang hosted from Lanius’s POV, apologises for the delay in posting
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

As usual I was late.

A leisured pace from the forests into more temperate tree lines, the gathering becomes more noticeable…curious I swore I saw a figure dash past on approach…I paid it little heed given the task ahead. The Archdruid appeared to be undertaking the organisation, the group was mixed with faces familiar and dismissible, all the same it was less than I expected and thank the good gods for that. (Last thing needed is a Zhentarim patrol wondering why there’s significant foot traffic leading to a dozen plus overly armed ‘adventurers’ escorting what is supposedly simple fletching goods…)

Well eventually a vague plan was set, I opted to be a mostly silent addition, taking place nearest the cart, looking to my ‘companions’. The Archer and Ranger walked ahead, hiding in shadows that barely existed, the rest floating around the cart in what would generously be called a formation. Our path set us through the Fox Ridge, the biggest obstacle being not the Gnolls festering about but the incline on the ridge itself. Once successfully navigated the Archer returned with warning of a Zhentarim patrol, taking the pragmatic approach we waited for them to move on, needless complications as mentioned above.

From there we took to the Ride itself, a drawn out walk east, idle and meaningless conversation the only break from overwhelming boredom. Until the Drow burst from the shadows of course. A hooded figure in their little party stating ‘Jezz and the Jaelre send their regards’ I swore I heard the smirk in the declaration as he ripped the plane asunder, tearing forth a creature from the abyss as both sides clashed. It was….messy, in a coordinative and literal sense, but the net result was Drow corpses littering the landscapes, and our numbers undented or cargo untouched.

The journey proceeded once more, with a healthy dose of paranoia guiding everyone’s actions, I couldn’t help but smirk at the idea. Did they honestly not expect various groups to stake a claim? Especially with such a large group defending the caravan? Of course further complications emerged when only one of our scouts returned. The Archer informed us of an amassed bandit horde further up the road, with prisoners. The plural is what drew my attention more. There was a haphazard suggestion of just murdering them all and being down with it…..which was quite possible but ran the risk of escalation. Parlaying was the plan, and for reasons that baffle me to this day, I was appointed spokesmen.

A reasonable pace led myself, and the Archer under shadows to come face to face with the bandits in question. They numbered quite a few, certainly a few spells at least if it came to blows….but dialogue was initiated. The leader, enjoying whatever position of superiority she thought she had, declared terms, passage and the freedom of their two prisoners for the not exactly in-considerable sum of 25 crowns. The Ranger said nothing while binded, nor did the other, a dwarf, wearing a garb that made me, quite foolishly in hindsight spout ‘why would I care about the Cormyran?’ earning only frowns from the bandit leader, she didn’t understand the significance! I almost kicked myself there and then but eventually she gave a reason. Supposedly this purple wearing dwarf was cousin to the trader we were escorting. Certainly possible, certainly also possible that it was a convenient lie. Regardless it was fairly inconsequential to the actual task, I counter offered with twice the sum for a complete dispersal from this part of the road in the area near the fort. Surprisingly this was agreed to, and they all but threw their prisoners and dispersed. A few words from the shadows, clearly the Archer recommended that these individuals may be of service removing another problem, I agreed and mentioned there might be an appropriate bounty on the head of the Orc chieftain giving the fort trouble. They possibly considered it, equally likely they ignored it. Whatever the case, the caravan made its way along the road unabated; this ‘cousin’ has disappeared wordlessly of course without a comment at all from the trader himself.

Well we moved on to the fort itself, two lingering questions remained. Would the bandits hold to the deal (if they enjoy their little camp in an unflattened state I certainly hope they do….)…and more curiously….

What was a Purple Dragon Knight of Cormyr doing in the dales?

The red eyed genasi archer is found in the camp, exchanging coin and goods in a very charitable ratio, before moving to the gate. Even as the hours pass, dull and unimportant, the woman can be seen perched across the moat, ready at a moment for anything of danger to approach.

An attack of undead was noted and repulsed. Why the undead would care about political leanings is anyone's guess. Many of the familiar faces were there to assist in repulsing the onslaught. Oddly enough the bandits also showed to assist. An uneasy truce was struck for the duration of the onslaught.

Lanius has been seen around the fort as of late, making requests for an audience with the foreman working on the camps walls, his inquiry hints at another task for the dwaven build crew in the coming months.
