At the request of Swordhand Shadowsong, a small, foreign halfling can be seen walking around from home to farmhold. At each stop, she mentions a class that she will be holding, free of charge, for the general public to learn to read and write - a completely voluntary undertaking, paid for by the local Zhentarim; no one is obligated or required to participate. The class will be held at week's end, on the second floor of the Old Skull Inn in the meeting room.

A black armored priestess reads over the notice and simply shakes her head, sneering after every word it composes; promptly walking away.

Reading the notice she would nod in approval before pinning a small note of her own under this one.

The first class meets and adjourns after about four hours. Though only a handful showed up for the offered education, the halfling tutor spent time teaching the illiterate commoners the alphabet - how to draw them, how to sound out words and identify which sounds belong to which letters.
She sends each commoner home with two pages of simple, common sentences and phrases to memorize and study as they wish. She also promises to let them know when she'll hold another class, and asks them to share what they learned with their friends.
