Rebuilding the Orphanage Empty
PostSubject: Rebuilding the Orphanage   Rebuilding the Orphanage EmptyTue Jun 05, 2012 11:36 am

Elijah puts up the following notice in Myth Drannor, the Oak and the Ranger's Camp at Fox Ridge. He also sends copies of the notice to Clan Ironhouse and to some personal friends in the druids' Circle.

No greater tragedy has struck us in recent times than the abhorrent burning down of the orphanage leaving only seven survivors and scores of innocent children dead. Even as I write, the perpetrators of this vile crime remain at large, plotting their next contemptible move.

While we grieve for the lives lost and seek to ferret the shameful dastards out from their hiding holes, let us also do what we can to rebuild a safe haven for our orphans once more. I urge you, therefore, friends and allies of Myth Drannor and of the temple of Lathander, to lend your aid to our rebuilding efforts.

All types of contributions are deeply appreciated. In particular, we need:
- gold pieces to fund the entire project
- craftsmen who could help in the design and actual building of the new orphanage
- bricks, wood and other building materials

Please direct your contributions and queries to the temple of Lathander and her key representatives (Knight Kirala and myself, the undersigned). The ranger Daerth is also involved in the planning of the rebuilding and is a key volunteer in this project. We can be easily reached at Myth Drannor.

With deepest appreciation, I thank you for your gift of love to the children.

May the Light of Dawn shine on us all!

I had much time to visit Mythdrannor and learning such news about dead children filled my heart with sorrow, some say i am a weird man and they cant understand my actions, whoever i am though i dont desire death of children neither loose their home.
I dont have money since i dont use them, but i have 10000 i collected from hunting trophies i am willing to give, also being a woodsman i can gather you fast and easy as much wood you need and can do a lot of heavy lfiting taking forms of elementals.

Karovir pins a note somewhere near the lathander temple:

Dear lathandrites,

I have several materials like wood and iron stored. Just find me and I will give it to you together with some gold.

Best regards

Justin Jarias enters the Temple of Lathander. Finding no one about, he knocks on several doors upstairs, but receives no answer.

Returning to the main floor, he pulls a pen and a bit of parchment from his pack. He writes a short note and leaves it on one of the benches.

Among a small stand of trees near the edge of the Cormanthor Steffan looks about for the right wood suited to the task at hand. Once founds he marks off the trees and spends the morning cutting them with his hand axe and debarking them

Once finished, Steffan the northman floats the logs down stream so that they may be dried and shaped into boards for the rebuilding of the orphanage.

Anadra quietly gives supplies and gold to those rebuilding the orphanage.

She also keeps an eye on those cutting timber for use in the building. Protecting them from threats and at the same time making sure they are being careful to only take the trees they need and not too many from any one place. And that seedlings are are planted in the places where trees have been cut.

Richo the druid.

Elijah commissions a competent runner to deliver a rolled up parchment affixed with a Lathander seal to Richo. The runner is told to seek out the druid at the Ranger's Camp and nearby lands. The parchment reads:

Greetings, Richo the druid.

While I have not spoken with you in person, your name is not unfamiliar to me. In the matter of innocent children, we are bound by a shared sense of justice and of the natural laws, regardless of the turbulent history you might have with some of my friends and fellow men.

I deeply appreciate and accept your offer of gold and aid. We will need to find a mutually appropriate time and place for me to receive your kind contributions however, given the sensitivities that still exist.

Be assured that your help goes a long way to provide a new home for the orphans. For that we are eternally grateful.

Blessings,
Elijah

Elijah sends a junior monk to deliver a parchment affixed with a Lathander seal to Ardylan. "Yes, you heard me right. Ardylan, I said. Look for the most moody elf around and you can't go wrong", instructs the Abbot as the acolyte's eyes widen in fear of what is to come.

The parchment reads:

Ardy, my friend.

I know you will be here to lend whatever support you can give, without anyone asking. I sense too that things have not been that smooth sailing on your end as well. I trust that as you give yourself to the work of rebuilding the orphanage, your heart will be refreshed once more. May the peace that transcends all understanding fill your heart.

Blessings,
Elijah

Elijah prepares a letter affixed with a Lathander seal and sends it to Justin. The letter reads:

Dear Justin,

Though I've only met you once, you strike me as a person with a heart of gold. Your humility, teachability and kindness are apparent. I thank you for coming to seek me out at the temple with your love gift for the children. I must apologize that duties elsewhere have prevented me from receiving you in person. Your gift will go a long way to bless the children. And you will surely go a long way in life as you continue to walk this path of righteousness.

Blessings,
Elijah

// All the gold, iron and wood that Elijah has collected whether directly or through Daerth (the unwitting 'volunteer') have been duly passed to Sunflower. The breakdown, in no particular order, is as follows (this also serves as acknowledgement of your donations and that they did not end up in some corrupt monk's pockets Cool ):

Piak - 7,000 gold
Earalia - 75,000 gold
Nadin - 5,000 gold
Daerth - 5,000 gold
Ka - 20,000 gold
Elijah - 88,000 gold
TOTAL = 200,000 gold + an assortment of wood and iron => passed to Sunflower

OTHERS:
Auryne - 10,000 gold => passed to Umbra

Let me know if you've given your donations directly to Daerth or me but your donations are not reflected above.

There are still other donors (such as Valtore on behalf of Clan Ironhouse, Justin Jarias etc) who, to the best of my knowledge, are going to pass the collections to Sunflower in-game when they see her. //

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Over the past couple of weeks, the Abbot Elijah had been busy supervising the rebuilding efforts. The dwarven craftsmen proved to be a great help, as expected. Elijah listened to the advice of the craftsmen intently, giving due respect to the dwarves who clearly commanded great expertise in masonry.
After going through the master plan, the Abbot simply asked that they build the walls of the orphanage first and not to go beyond that until further instructions are given. He left it at that, declining to elaborate further. As the rebuilding commenced, the Abbot could be seen at the construction site often, thanking and affirming the builders, volunteers as well as those who dropped by to see how the progress was coming along.
When not at the site, Elijah took great pains to make sure that all records of donations and rebuilding activities were kept in the most meticulous manner possible. He also had the patrolling Lathanderite knights report back on a daily basis the descriptions (and names, if possible) of all visitors to the site.
PostSubject: Re: Rebuilding the Orphanage   Rebuilding the Orphanage EmptyTue Jun 12, 2012 4:35 am
The new paladin arrives at the temple. Hearing about what happened there he is constantly on guard. He has been getting acquainted with the surviving children that have been take residence in the local temple. The paladin has been helping the monks with the children and trying to keep them from thrashing the temple. The children were impressed by the the paladin and his armor. They keep asking him to wear it and asking to try it on themselves.
The paladin speaks to one of the knights and leaves a note with them for the Abbot.
I may not be a tradesman or a skilled mason. I can do some labor to help out with the building if need be. I also can help with the children as well until their new home is built. I will also help guard the building project to make sure no one tries to come in and stop the building from happening. Also, I been looking around at our defenses, which I believe are lacking here. Should I send a request to Waterdeep to send more aid?
PostSubject: Re: Rebuilding the Orphanage   Rebuilding the Orphanage EmptyTue Jun 12, 2012 8:28 am
*Ardylan continues to visit the graves of his three children (adopted posthumously) on a daily basis, bringing flowers some days to refresh the ones that have wilted or dried up. He also brings three hand-sewn stuffed toys to leave at each grave.
He still demands that he be left alone while he sits at the grave sites, but he has been spending an increasing amount of time in the area afterwards - even getting a bit less short-fused and grumpy.
He checks in on the survivors, though he still seems reserved, as if he is having a hard time interacting with them in the same manner he did with the others prior to the incident.
When enough volunteers have shown up to keep the children busy, he pitches in with the efforts by providing manual labor to the rebuilding effort, making sure that the new orphanage is well-built and structurally sound in a way that only an Elven carpenter can boast.*
Valtore personally delivers the 250,000 gold to Elijah. Afterwards he spends some time among the dwarf craftsmen, talking at length with his cousin Gavor Ahur the master Craftsman. Afterwards he moves amoung the workers joking with them and helping out where he can. At the end of the work day a keg of Ironhouse ale is opened at the inn, where the first round is drunk to the children who didn't survive the attack, the second to those that did, and the third to the future people that will live in the new building. True to his Oath, Valtore only drinks water.
Rebuilding the Orphanage Empty
PostSubject: Re: Rebuilding the Orphanage   Rebuilding the Orphanage EmptyWed Jun 13, 2012 9:41 am
Donations continued to pour in even as the rebuilding went underway. Overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown, the Abbot received the pouches (and in some instances, chests) of gold with trembling hands and a face taut with emotions.
He also gave instructions for the builders to proceed with the orphanage's roof and interiors after the walls were completed. Because the amount of gold and materials collected was huge, Elijah had started calling for suggestions from key representatives of Myth Drannor, members of the Lathander church, the craftsmen as well as active orphanage volunteers on possible extensions/enhancements to the orphanage. Suggestions thrown up so far included a school for the children and of course, beefed up security.
Apparently, when the walls were first erected, covert investigations were carried out at the site under the cloak of night and the cover of the freshly built walls. The surreptitious trio, including the Abbot himself, combed the site once more with brawn and magic believing they were on an important lead. Not much else was known about the investigations.
~~~~~~~

//In addition to the list of donations above, Elijah has received from:
- Richo the druid, 5,000 gold
- Mara Brinsbane, 30,000 gold
- Maya Lyon, 50, 000 gold
- Justin Jarias, 50,000 gold

This additional sum of 135,000 gold is with Elijah currently and will be passed to a DM. Done. Passed to DM Light.

The grand total of donations so far = 595,000 gold + large quantities of wood and iron.
