| The moon shone clearly one night in Shadowdale, people bursting about as they usually did at this time.
In the corner of the adventure shop building stood Aliel. When briefly glancing it looked like she was simply standing casually, but if one were to examine her, one would quickly learn that she was waiting, most possibly for someone.
When Aliel had patiently waited for almost an hour, the one she had expected finally arrived.
Illyssa, her sister. Aliel had long heard rumors of her sister, and now she would learn for herself if those dire words indeed were true.
Just as Illyssa had returned from a patrol, on her way to sell the spoils, Aliel stepped forward. "Hello sister," Aliel said and in a none-too-happy tone.
Very surprised, Illyssa regarded her sister to see that it was truly her. "But, what are you doing here, Aliel?" Illyssa said, feigning the shock.
Her sister Aliel certainly saw through her feigned surprise. She gave her a cold stare.
"What are you doing, Illyssa?"
"That's my own business," Illyssa simply replied. So it was true, she thought, Aliel had found her way to Shadowdale, and now she would probably - definitely - tell her how wrong it is.
"Your own business, is it? Tell me, since when did Bane become your god?" Aliel dared asking. She continued, "Do you have any idea what it is you're doing, Illyssa?!"
"In fact I have," Illyssa responded, not liking the glare her sister was sending her. I am becoming powerful. More powerful you can ever dare to dream about, Aliel!"
"You are a fool, Illyssa! Selling your own soul to a devil only to serve as a pawn by the Zhentarim! You're shaming our entire family!" Aliel snapped, louder than she had intended. "What do you think mom and dad would do if they found out?"
"They know, Aliel."
"They know of all this?!"
"When I made the pact with a devil, they could sense a change about me. They knew I had engaged in something dark. Mom and dad kept it a secret to our village, then they helped me leave, before people got too suspicious," Illyssa explained honestly.
Aliel could not believe what she was hearing - and from her own sister! "What can these -" she waved towards the well "- people give you?"
"Everything I have ever wanted, Aliel. Ultimate power. And through Bane is the only way that is right!"
"Listen to yourself, sister!" Aliel shouted at her sister, "You're doing this to your own family! You are abandoning us, Illyssa!"
Now it was Illyssa's turn to cast a cold glare at her sister. YOU are the one who left, Aliel! And besides, these people here are my family now! You have no control over that!"
Shocked, Aliel wasn't even sure she wanted to have a say in her sister's life anymore. Her sister had changed so dramatically much that Aliel had to turn around and start away from Illyssa, from the sister she could no longer recognize.
