Steelbelly Stoneforger was exploring the mines infested with kobolds when he was attacked by several undead. After defeating them with the power of Dumathoin, he followed a voice taunting him and defeated several more waves of undead in various forms. He heard the name "Orcus" fall from the mouth of one as he struck it down. Finally he came to a room where the walls ran with blood, and challenged the source of the voice to face him. It taunted him several more times, calling forth more undead to fall before his pickaxe. Then a frightened woman's voice called out, but before Steelbelly could even begin to search for her the sound of her life ending came to his ears, and the vile presence showed itself in the form of a man. Steelbelly called upon the power of Dumathoin and struck the figure down, but found it to be nothing more than an illusion. The voice taunted him again as it faded away, saying "Death is but the beginning."
He relayed most of this to a guardsman whom he joined fighting more undead in those same mines, and offered to help a Miss Locke who saved his life more than once in those battles.
After the affair was done, he began looking into this "Orcus," whom the previously mentioned "Miss Locke" alluded to being quite powerful while giving him no details at all. Steelbelly spent some hours in meditation and prayer asking for guidance from Dumathoin, who had seemed well pleased by Steelbelly's faith and devotion when faced by the undead.
After that, he posted a request on the board in Shadowdale for a researcher to assist him as he was unable to read more than the most basic of words.
