Shadowdale Hospital

A body is brought to the hospital by a couple guards, and one of them asks for Sister Laura or any of the other staff to inspect it. The body is covered with a blanket and kept away from others until someone can look it over. The smell wafts through the hospital as it's brought to a room.

Laura rarely travels far. She walks through the thresh hold of the commons room and turns on her heels to escort them through the maze of halls. She leads them to where they keep the dead, a clean room with a morbid purpose. They are not alone. People die in hospitals, it is just the way of things. There are already two bodies in there, waiting for their funerals. They are discretely covered and respectfully kept, a few charms and holy symbols laying on their sheets.

Laura motions for them to use a clean table, walking to a closet to take out another burial shroud.

"What happened?" She talks over her shoulder.

The guards take the corpse and rest it on a clean table. As they do, another guard enters, looking as though he's been relatively ill recently, his face pale and what looks like dried vomit is a bit down his cheek and on his boots. In his hand is a stick that seems to have a eyeball stabbed onto the end. He is holding it as far from himself as possible.

"He uh...there was this...and his face..." He hardly seems able to talk about it before reaching up to cover his mouth. The poor man doesn't seem to really be able to handle such things. One of the other guards speaks up.

"This man was found towards the South, kind of near the House of the Moonmaiden. This is the third we've come across. The other body is in the House of Plenty, and the third...I can't remember. It was long ago."

Jonah arrives during his normal rounds. He peeks in quietly, and observes briefly. This is as restful a place as any for the Dead, and Jonah himself is no stranger to the grim task of giving a man his last bath before burial.

He sees Sister Laura on the case, and bows his head to her before continuing his rounds. Before he can leave the room, he nearly runs into the sick guard holding the gruesome artifact. Feeling compelled to stay, Jonah gently takes the stick from the guard, and offers him a clean, damp cloth to wipe his face with.

"Three Days, my foot. Ivaris was right," Jonah says beneath his breath.

Covering the eye-ball stick with another cloth, he wraps the thing gently, and places it next to the body for now. Jonah looks to Laura for next steps.

Laura took the grizzly eyeball on a stick away from the guard and very carefully placed it on a towel on the side-table. The man was dead, there wouldn't be much need for her to heal it back into him. That is, if he was to remain dead. Laura had strict views on raising the dead. Views that she often broke herself when it came to her own friends. It was a subtle hypocrisy she carried around with her. It was heretical to raise the dead without it being an extreme situation...but she always tried for those she cared about. Of course she only tried, she actually had never succeeded. Laura had not successfully risen the dead before. There we close calls, and near-death raises she had done, but that was more of a near-death experience than an actual resurrection.

It made her self-conscious enough to not ask the guard if they wanted her to make an attempt. Instead she more or less let the question hang in the air and focused on other inquiries.

"How did this happen...and what are you talking about Brother? What was Ivaris right about?"

Jonah looks to Laura and shakes his head; "It's something Ivaris said when I came back from my run-in with the Madman. He told me that this... creature would hurt more people no matter what I did. It seems he was right."

"It doesn't make it any easier, though." He looks away from the still figure beneath the sheet. "Especially not for the townsfolk."  Jonah looks to the guards; "Is there anything more you can tell us about what happened?"

Two of the guards shake their heads, but the third one that brought in the eye-popsicle speaks up a bit. "There was this symbol drawn in blood. I've never seen anything quite like it. It's got to be a cult or something. There was a trap too. I don't know what to make of it."

A few days pass and another body is brought to the hospital. A man known as Father Gregory looks it over, stating he is looking to find Jonah and Laura to help determine things.

As the day progresses, there out outcries within the halls of the hospital and a room is closed off to all but Laura, Jonah, and Father Gregory. It's unknown just what is going on, but screams of agony seem to echo throughout the building.
