Rumors around Shadowdale about Zhentarim's betrayal

"Rumors around town and surroundings talk about Zhents betraying the citizens and people delivering their fate to a terrible and evil undead creature, a powerful Lich King which the Zhent formed an alliance in exchange for a powerful artifact, leaving the entire population vulnerable to the most terrible evils arising from this abomination.

The population, especially in rural areas around the city, already extremely moved by the brutal murder the Zhents imposed on Mille, a Druid and Priestess of Chauntea, known to all as a gentle old lady, who has long been helping bringing seeds and taking care of the fields, they are now terrified and disgusted by the treachery of the Zhents and their cowardice in the face of an enemy that attacked the town with a horde of undead creatures, staying just watching from a distance, leaving valiant and brave adventurers to fight alone defending Shadowdale, as reported from several witnesses."

Is it possible to determine yourself what all these NPCs do?

Rumors also spread that the death of the Chauntean druidess was a suicide and that the goddess of harvest wont return the womans soul for she took her own life. The towns folks also quietly speak among themselves about the rebels possibly putting shadowdale in danger after reading the official notices of the Zhentarim.

((In my personal opinion, people in SD would be fairly used to the Zhents executing people by now, sure a bit agitated by a priestess but nothing major... A Lich King... well I'd say as a common farmer, regardless of what the Zhent did I'd be shiz scared to go out of my door until the tax collector came knocking with the usual "Pay or pray" sort of line and then I'd go about my usual farmery business, if a little agitated, I'd say people would be scared... for a little while, then get on with life realising the Zhents dealt with it. just my thoughts on it, also this is no way saying this is what the NPC's would do, just a little thought on it, maybe a DM posting on actual reactions around town would clear this up))

((FWIW on my last server the definition of god modding included making statements for, or determining reactions of any NPC or PC (with out the players approval) in forum posts. Though (silent) exceptions were made for non appearing NPC lovers, parents, children etc. that were part of the PC's background or off line life as long as said NPC's never had an effect of any sort on anyone except the PC. If a reaction was desired players would leave an OOC note on their post and if the DM's or other players wanted to comment they did. Violating it did get posts removed or edited by DM's.))

((OOC for those that weren't involved in the deal the deal with the Lich King was that he would leave and no citizen of the dales was to be harmed among other things. The deal was struck to protect people from a needless fight not only would this be the official line it is also the truth. The Swordhands pulled out and then other people attacked the Lich placing citizens and farmers in danger. To my mind a completely Chaotic Evil Act, For a player to then come in and say what the people of the Dales are saying and what their reaction to this seems to be crazy.

This does seem to be complete God Modelling where there is no recourse for anyone to respond in any way to it and must fall into the OOC realms of writing things that have no direct connection with in game elements. Would be nice to get a DM or staff member to comment on just what can be said for NPCs and what can't. We touch on this on another thread which was quickly burried.))

\\ lets not forget that even if the deal was one of such, all its being spread is that the zhents cut a deal with a lich king, for a story like this to jump to "the zhents stroke a bargain with the lich king to raise for them a undead army" all it takes is for the story to go around from a few mouths to another \\

(( I would like to point out that the Zhents have actively been spreading the truth in that the rebels attacked and angered the lich which was going to leave the town unharmed, it's not like the zhents are just sitting back and allowing such propaganda to be spread. Personally any person I find spreading propaganda gets questioned and Hector's ordered any Swordhands that hear such to do so as well.

\\ it all gets down to trust then, who do the commoner trust more to actually be right here? the oppressive zhents? I wouldnt think so, specially after the chauntea priest "suicide", or after the many decapitaded bodies spreaded around town(or overall mutilated)

That is for DM to decide what NPCs think. It's best to not even suggest what NPCs might think, just leave it all to a DM.
