anyone brave enough to venture into the northern hills and Managing to avoid all the undead patrols who have noticably increased since the attack on the Castle,
will notice that all of the northern Daggerhills ( OOC note: Daggerhills North map) are cloaked in a purple mist. Inside the mist they would see no alive Vegetation or living being..
Those venturing into the mist will soon realize that their life force is being drained away.

Is the purple mist covering the whole area or just around the castle?

the purple mist is covering the whole Daggerhills North map by now (including the Castle)
