Trivia Night at the Royal Oak - Date Changed

It is my pleasure to announce the first Trivia Night at the Royal Oak!

When: Sunday 2/12 at 7PM EST (Midnight UTC)

Basic Rules:
The specific rules will be explained that night but some of the basic rules are...

• Contestants will be divided into two or more teams at random, depending on how many people come
  
• All normal rules of the Oak still apply
  
• The interpretation of the rules and correctness of the answers are up to the hostess, arguing will be penalized
  
• The winning team will split a gold prize. The size of the prize will depend on how much we can raise before hand
  
• The second place team will get a free round of drinks

I really need a volunteer willing to write questions (and if any of the DMs want to contribute a few that would be great!). Anyone writing questions can't play, though. If there is anyone who would like to be involved but doesn't want to play, I could also use a scorekeeper/timekeeper.

I'm planning to do this again too, if all goes well, so if you can't make it to this one hopefully you can make the next.

After talking it over a bit with DM Gnu I have the final set of rules for trivia night. If you'd like to come to the Oak and play, please read them ahead of time so you know how it will work.

DM Gnu offered to write the questions for us. Vuz gave a donation for the prize but I do need some more if anyone is feeling generous. I could also still use someone to volunteer to keep time and score.

Rules:

• Contestants will be divided into two or more teams at random, depending on how many people come
  
• Each team will be asked one question per round. Only that team may answer.
  
• Once a question is asked, the team will have 30 seconds for each member to make a lore roll
  
• If any team member beats the value of the question with the roll he or she will be OOCly given the answer
  
• I will pick who out of the members that rolls high enough gets the answer and try to mix it
  
• If no one on the team gets high enough, the team misses the question and gets no points
  
• A point will be given to the team for each question correctly answered
  
• All normal rules of the Oak still apply
  
• The interpretation of the rules and correctness of the answers are up to the hostess, arguing will be penalized

• Once it starts please try to keep unrelated chat to whispers so it's a little easier to follow what's going on

Wait, so it's just a competition of who has the highest Lore?

Not necessarily, there's a good bit of chance involved and being that it's done in teams that should help even things out.

When I was originally thinking about how to do it, my plan was to ask questions for people to actually answer, but the DM asked me to base it on lore skill rolls instead so this is what I came up with.

If it's being done in teams, it's all about assembling the right team! Legend Lore, Bard Songs, Int-boosting spells...

It seems Lanius' rescue was scheduled for the same time so I'm moving it forward a day. We will have it on Sunday instead.

and no team arranging beforehand, they'll be picked at random.

Trivia starts soon! After thinking about it some more I think I came up with a good compromise between those who like rolls and those who don't as much.

Each question will work as the rules say, but if you know the answer AND the answer is something that your character would definitely know without a doubt (it happens to be about his or her own home or deity for example) then you can skip rolling and just answer.

It's just a fun little thing as something different to do, so I'm not worried overly much about how people answer. It didn't quite work out for the DM who was going to do the question for me so I had to write them myself. I did the best I could, so please be forgiving with me.
