| To Captain Westcar,
Greetings. I have watched as your Swordhands have kept order in town and have come to desire the title of Swordhand, myself. There is much I have to learn and there is much I am sure I must do to prove myself. I am willing to do what I must. I was referred by Swordhand Migantes. I will use no more of your time. These are my intentions.
At Your Service,
Dash Thanos

| To Captain Westcar,
Hello Sir, I have traveled a long way with Sir Reshek Ghoulhond from the Sword Coast. We have spoken to Dread Brother Wuuq about helping out here, and after a long discussion it was decided that I should enlist in the Zhentarim ranks. I only wish to serve, and offer my skills to help the Zhentarim, and the Black Lord in these trying times in the Dales.

| Honorable Captain Westcar:
Not long hence I ventured forth to teach heathen savage of the Dread Lord hearing of a nearby band of orcs. The band I encountered were of gray-orc stock and called themselves the Bloodspear. During my proselytizing drow, beholders, driders, and other foul things of the underdark struck. These Bloodspear warriors and I drove them back slaying many of the abominable servants of chaos. I did not count their exact number, but it was more than four score of the blighted infidel.
At the end of this, the sky turned red as blood and was effulgent with ruby light. The ground trembled with a terrible quaking, and the Black Lord spoke stating that "We had done well".
I was overcome by His Dread and Magnificent Presence and was moved to instill Holy Terror upon this band via an Atonement blessing.
The following are now of the Faithful in the Dread Lord's direct sight and by His Terrible Will: Brakka, Garmash, Garmok, Gron, Ghurr. and Ur'got. I know not his plans for these warriors, and do not seek to know for to have fulfilled His Will is enough.
I am housing them at the cathedral currently under construction. Their indoctrination in the Church's teachings continues and the Faithful see to their drilling that they may be ready for combat in the Lord of Darkness' Most Dread Name. They seek to bring more of their tribe for conversion, and I have no doubt that soon a few elite companies will be prepared to march upon the foes of the Black Hand. They take to the True Faith like ducks to water.
The Dread Lord's shadow upon you always,

| Honored Captain Westcar,
I write this letter simply to inform you of my wish to join your ranks, as I have served Bane since I've learned to walk upon the ground. It seems I've heard of a bustling activity of theivery and crime, both of which I have no compassion for. My life and time will be devoted to the guard and Zhent as you continue to keep order and peace in the region. My skills as both a scout, tracker and fighter have proven useful many times within my life, but as of late has had no use. Thus, I wish to apply my soul to your leadership so I may preserve order and die alongside brothers of a similar cause.
Should you wish to see me in person, I am currently residing in the Inn and can be found easily staying within the town limits until I recieve your answer, whether a decline or an accept.
May the Fear of Bane be with you,
Signed, Artemis Nefzen.

| Captain Westcar,
My name is Malachore. In my short time in Shadowdale, I have seen many criminals and petty thieves attempting to counteract the balance of law and order. These atrocities should not be tolerated, and I wish to be of some assistance in this matter. This is why I am sending you a letter, as a request to join the Zhent. My magical skills have yet to show their true potential, but with time and training, they will be of much use to you and your guardsmen. Bane has shown me that fear is the only way to keep order, and I feel that my magic will soon instill fear in others.
I will be awaiting a response in Shadowdale, should you need to see me. Please alert me of a decision as soon as you can.
Sincerely, Malachore.

| Honorable Captain Westcar,
I am sending this letter because I wish to join the guard of the Zhent. I have some knowledge in the art of using the powers of the Lower Planes and even if I am still a novice, I am pretty sure that I could make a decent recruit. Should you accept me into your ranks, please let me know of your decision as soon as possible.

| Dear Cpt. Westcar,
I have sent this letter seeking acceptance into the ranks of the Zhentarim. A few months prior to my arrival here in Shadowdale I had spent some time running with a group of men who were followers of Bane. With them is where I was converted to his cause and shortly after began my journey here to serve. I am trained in combat with falchion and believe I can be put to good use under your command.

| Dear Cpt. Westcar,
My name is Joseph Keirgan, cleric of bane. I have traveled here in hopes to help build the temple in the name of Bane. So fist off i wish to join the church of bane and do his work. Second i am also training in hopes to become a Warpriest as well and combat from being on duty as a member of your great organization would be the best way to walk down that path. So far i haven't been able to talk to any of the sword hands only some mercenaries. I would greatly appreciate it if i could take a bit of your time even though your a busy man and talk about these matters in person. May fear fill your heart and hatred guide your blade.
Sincerely,
Joseph Keirgan. | |

| Captain,
I recently made it aware to several Swordhands that it was my intent to join their ranks. I was advised to contact you, via letter, and address you with my intent. I have fought in many lands, though none such as your Shadowdale. Bane has guided me here and I know now why. I have always been one to uphold order when and where I could. I can help you and the Zhentarim as a whole.
One Swordhand, in particular, Reshek Ghulhond, escorted us in the goblin caves, seeking to evaluate us and test us, no doubt. The knowledge he provided was useful and I will continue to use what I learned to improve.
I would do whatever it takes for order to be upheld and may I serve Bane and the Zhentarim as only He would will it.
Signed,
Samma'el Hecate | |

Dear Capitain Westcar
I would like to join the zhent and help guard the town of shadowdale so I may serve bane and those who fallow him. I am a half-orc and am able to cast arcane magic to an extent. I am also a good fighter. I do think that my ability's will be able to help me serve bane and in extention the zhent very well. You can meet with me if you wish so. Praise Bane.

Honored Battle-Captain;
I am Tiberius Steelfall, a merchant from the Keep recently arrived in the dale. I write to you with intention of joining your fold.
Being later in my years than most and of well-manicured hand, I think you will find I am rather unsuited to guard duty, but it is not skill at arms I offer you; given the Zhentarim's pretense of keeper of law and order within Shadowdale, I am quite sure by now you have found that certain 'groups' of 'people' must be tolerated despite their heresy in denying the Black Hand their undying souls. I believe a silvered tongue and the turn of coin may be of use where swords must be stayed. Let my words and my shrewd business-sense be the Dark Lord's tools as well.
I have recently spoken with the good Incantationer in this regard, and trust he will serve as witness to my intention.
Your reply will find me at the local inn when your hand sees fit to put pen to paper.
In humble fear of the Black Hand,
*signed* Tiberius Steelfall

Dear Captain Westcar,
My name is Aradya and I am interested in joining the ranks of the Zhentarims. Due to a misconception on my behalf I was given the powers of a warlock and would like to put them to favorable use, for Bane and the Zhentarims. I have worshiped Bane for many years now and the one contributing thing I have learned from him, is how to imbue pure immobilizing fear into others. I would like the opportunity to show you my talents for such things.
I currently have a room at the Inn and can be reached through the Inn Keeper. I look forward to speaking to you.
Sincerely, Aradya. Speak to Lucky or myself. ~Westscar

| Honorable Captain Westcar:
It is with heavy heart I pen this letter.
No doubt by now you've been made aware by Swordhand Aundaer Luscane that Reshek Ghulhond is dead. The cigar he was smoking was poisoned with black lotus extract. I was not able to determine from whence it hailed as such matters are not my area of expertise. Swordhand Luscane has the cigar in question, and I am certain one of the Zhentarim's many alchemists can determine the poison's exact source, that Swordhand Ghulhond's death may be avenged. A Miss Kley is the one who found Swordhand Ghulhond's body on the first floor of the Old Skull Inn, the second meeting room on the right. She had stated that she saw his form crumpled on the floor as she exited the kitchen his hands still gripping his trusted axe.
The Most Dread Tyrant has taken this man to his bosom, as it was Swordhand Ghulhond's time--he is beyond resurrection.
I understand that the man served the Black Lord faithfully in his youth, and even took back up his arms and armor hearing of the war in these lands. Thus I would see a proper service held for him, as he is one of your men Swordhand Ghulhond's body is your property in the Dread Lord's sight so I request permission to do this loyal servant of the Lord of Darkness honor at his end, and of course, see that even in death he may continue to serve.
The Black Hand point you to the treacherous,

| Dearest Captain Westscar,
As you know, Shadowdale bridges are some of the finest in the land. However, they don't maintain themselves. Fortunately, I have access to a toll cat which is more than pleased to keep your bridges happy and safe. Of course, toll cats love Shadowdale and would gladly do this service for free. However, this toll cat would like a permission to be able to ask for small donations from those who cross the bridge. Traditionally, toll cats accept their donations in the form of pets or small sums of gold. Here, the toll cat would ask for no different. A request of at least one pet or a minimum donation of 10 gold pieces to show appreciation for the toll cat's tireless efforts. All voluntary, of course. And Zhent guards and Skymages would merely cross the bridge with the toll cat's warmest regards.
Toll cat thanks you in advance for you kind consideration of this request.
Signed,
