| Dear Captain Westscar
My name is Myu, I am a half drow that is now a citizen of Shadowdale. Recently I was 'conscripted' by the lieutenant with a serpent tongue and Merrick. Desmodu and Lendrick were witnesses as well. However, one day later, I spoke to Desrah, which claimed the commander do not want me to join the Zentharim, nor the mercenaries. Dread Knight Justin seemed to speak as if I was drafted pernanently. When I asked the lieutenant about it, he said it was an on and off thing, they would draft me, then remove me from the mercenaries once the work was completed. He did not reveal to me who asked this special request.
So many conflicting stories push me to write this letter, because Ive heard the board of laws is to be revised, with half drows being included in the 'non protected' race section.
Since I give my talents to help your armor smiths to forge mithril full plates, something he seems not able to do without me, along with donating the recipe to enchant armors to the fourth tier enchanement, along with a few other help here and there, I was wondering if you could provide me with a letter proving that I would be among the protected race once the new board of laws is in place.
Thank you for your patience and comprehention.

I ordered the Lieutenant to remove you an official mercenary within the Zhentarim. As you past still haunts you and you're new to the city, admission to the Zhentarim will not come easy. Continue to prove yourself and we'll look at other options.

| *A letter is written to the commanding officer of the Zhentarim garrison in Shadowdale, penned by Robert Snow on behalf of the Kelemvorian and Jergalite Church, the letter is sealed with two wax emblems, symbols of both of the Gods*
Greetings, I hope this letter finds you swiftly. I am writing on behalf of the Kelemvorian and Jergalite Church, we are soon to convene as many members of aforementioned Churchs' at the Royal Oak inn in Rimwood, in about a months time from when I send this letter. (information in PC guilds, 8th October, 7pm EST)
I have been told that the rebels that oppose the Zhentarim use this area as a hideout, we chose this as our meeting ground for it is also said to be neutral ground. We ask if some members of the Zhentarim could come to the meeting to hear where the Church stands on certain matters, and how the Church and the Zhentarim garrison can work in a mutually beneficial way.
We ask that no swords be raised at the meeting. We do not expect just one Zhentarim to be sent on the sake of safety or not... we do not mind accomodating up to three, select Zhentarim troops. We also ask all hostilities are refrained at the meeting should you choose to send some troops there to listen, even if some "rebels" are present there. This is an open meeting, we do not decide who shows, we wish as many as possible to be present to hear out the Church of the two Lords of the Dead.
If the Oak is truly an unacceptable meeting area, we would ask if there is a place in Shadowdale we may convene, which may also be more accessible to any Zhentarim wishing to attend, it may prohibit others.
If you need more details, send a letter to Mistress Glamerie at the Chauntean temple, I will retrieve it from there in a day or so. (Feel free to send a forum PM to me)
We shall await your reply. Yours in faith, Robert Snow.

Justin reads the letter and attaches a note for Westscar to read.-Captain, This is a very poorly veiled attempt by the rebels to see if the Zhentarim are naive enough to go to the Royal Oak. There can be no understanding without violence and there can be dialogue without bloodshed, this is all the rebels understand. I suggest you burn this letter. | Dear Captain Westscar,
I apologize for not being able to write to you more frequently, but, as you well know, life in the Dales can keep us quite occupied. Well, I hope that all is well with you and your family. When you are free we should have dinner sometime. I am knowledgeable of several gnomish delicacies that should please your tastes. Unfortunately, I write this letter for more than just pleasantries. As you well know, I am an aspiring writer and have been keenly interested in the events of Shadowdale as of late. Thus, I would like to begin publishing a regular newspaper for the city to document the grand deeds of Shadowdale's Zhentarim and citizens. To do this, I require a press pass. Documentation that legitimize my writing in Shadowdale. The requirements of such a pass would mean that my stories must be approved by the Zhentarim before being published. Of course, I would have this no other way. I have spoken with several members of the guard about this and the reactions have been mostly positive. If you could be assist with the hastening of this pass, I could then begin writing of glorious Shadowdale and its tireless protectors.
Thanking you in advance and a few extra thank yous for later,

| A letter is given to one of the Swordhands stationed outside the barracks. The provider of the Letter is a halfling dressed in purple.
-Zhentarim Officer
Earlier today, I was threatened, on Shadowdale territory, by a man in Black armour, black goatee and wielding an acidic Falchion. His companion called him Wolf.
The incident is as follows. I went infinite abandoned farm to kill Spiders, and Wolf and his Companion were there. I asked if they were killing spiders and Wolfs companion said 'I do much more and you know that.' I told them that I think they owe me an apology for yelling at me, because I've never met them. Then Wolf waved his Falchion at me and said 'And you'll never meet anyone else unless you keep your own company'.
That was a clear threat on my life on Shadowdale territory. I kindly ask your men deal with this Wolf.

Official Request for Audience
Date (recent) From: The Honorable Reverend Dalton Brightcoin of the Arch Bank of Waukeen, Mulhurand Branch. To: Cpt. Westscar of the Shadowdale Zhentarim Re: Law Clarification and Business Opportunity Discussions
Cpt. Westscar. I have come to your city, a forth right Trader Priest in hopes of establishing profitable long term trading ventures with the powers that be. The Arch Bank of Waukeen has a long standing history in providing the cities in which they operate, generous tax revenues and increased population growth. I would like to meet with you to discuss, amongst other things;
I. The current laws regarding Slavery A. Is it Leagle for citizens to own non citizen slaves? 1. What constitutes citizenship? 2. What taxes would be levied? 3. Are any races, or services forbidden for slaves to be or do? 4. Can criminals be enslaved at the discression of your legal authorities?
II. New Long Term Trade Routes and Agreements A. Mulhurandi Goods and services 1. Via Ocean we can send our trade vessels through the Dragon Reach and up the River Asharaa as far as Mistdale but we will need ground caravan escort from there. 2. What goods? Spices, gems, maize? Perhaps skilled Craftsmen, Architects, and Professors skilled in rare Old Empire Magics and trade skills, all of this can be provided and more. 3. What to trade? Gold, Lumber, Slaves, (particularly gnomes, and fair haired human and elven stock) Mercenary support, Exclusive Import/Export rights, land for a Merchant’s guild & Temple, legal support.
And this is just a fraction of the many great things we can achieve with a little bit of trust and cooperation.
I take the first step by writing this letter to you. Will you take the second by honoring me with a invite?
Wealth, Health, and Prosperity, (signed) Hon. Rev. Dalton Brightcoin .

Reverend Dalton Brightcoin, 1. We do not allow slavery within Shadowdale save for the one halfdrow I would have otherwise hung. The only other exception is within the walls of the soon to be completed Thayan complex. That doesn't stop guards form having indentured servants or survitude from those who are a danger if left to their own. 2. We currently trade exclusively with the Thayans, I suggest offering your goods to them. ~Westscar

| A letter handed to a guard to be given to Captain Westcar.
"To the Captain,
My name is Jack Maybe. I know it might seem like a joke, but that's the name I go by-as I've disregarded the name of blood. I am writing to inquire about joining the ranks of the Zhentarim. I was told by one of your officers to send this letter; include my name, Skills, Religion, and reasons for joining. Let me first state-with no intention of hiding-that I'm half-elven. I have been told you don't hire elves. I don't mind taking longer to prove myself, in this regard. I hold no reservations of the elven people, and am considered an outcast by all. I hold no attachments to culture, views, or values.
My skills are that of a mage. The magics I specialize in are divination; the art of subtle manipulation and finding truths, and necromancy; the fist to my eye. I also lightly enchant, for now. I hope to create a few golem in my lifetime. With my divination, I am currently seeking a focus so that I may scry upon those whom I may consider an enemy, which will be the enemies of Bane and the Zhentarim.
Bringing me to religion. I do not focus on one God, but rather have a group that I pay tribute to. Bane is one of them. I fear the Gods, and would never condemn them, or commit blasphemy to the greater ones I respect; as Bane. If under the Zhentarim flag, I would uphold all that Bane represents-as I am representing him whilst holding his flag.
My reasons for joining are simple. I wish for safety, and purpose. I see the Zhentarim as a way to bring me both. I've seen your warriors and mages. They roam around in numbers that make the cities blush. I only wish to be part of it.
I hope to hear from you soon, Jack Maybe, Scryer."

Captain Westscar,
My name is Marcus Ashby, I have no love of the folk of Myth Drannor though they are under the guise of me being a friend, I would like to offer my services to your cause as a gatherer of information or pest removal as the case calls for. I have some skill as a bard and am able to call the winds and storms at my whim as well as more infernal powers, I am also well versed in undercommon as well as being able to make myself invisible at will. I have done my best to further the cause of our Lord Bane and look forward to speaking with you more on the matter.

| Dear Captain Westscar
My name is Dicky Jorinson. First off i am a sacred fist of the lady of loss. I have arrived quite some time ago and in need of work and ive noticed that the guards are a bit lacking.
If i could i would like to join your organization and help keep the peace in the dales. Im sure not only my divine abilities will be of use, but my ability to get and keep secrets as well.
I offered my abilities as a spy before but that had some....technical difficulties. Unfortunatly i do not think i can do that job here safely witch is why i want to become a member of the Zentarim.
So far i havent found a gaurd on duty to ask about this since i would like to keep it a secret. So that way when im in normal clothing i can infultrate the infidels and do my duties to the lady.
Sincerely
Dicky Jorinson

My name is Myu Vay Rya, and I have come back from my travels. Unfortunately, good zentharim Desrah kicked me out of town, saying I was not allowed in anymore.
I thought my donation of armor enchantment fourth tier to the church was enough to earn a living place in your town.
Please, tell miss diligent and ever watchfull Desrah that you still allow me in town?
PS : My congratulations on burning bridges with the black archers. The surface elves are as crazy as the dark ones down below, only they do not realises it.
Cordially yours,
Myu Vay Rya. | |

((ooc hes almost lvl 10 now)) Alright Dicky, I'm mistrustful of spies and sneakers, but if you think you have what it takes to serve in the Black Hand's legions, then seek me out when you can. Dread Knight Jenkins

*this letter is promptly crumpled into a ball and tossed aside* "You lost my interest the moment you mentioned elves and their dark kin."

| Dear Captain Westscar One of the Priestesses of Chauntea, a well meaning woman called Julia Navarre, is under the impression that there may be a bounty on her head following an incident in the last days Dread Knight McGregor living in Shadowdale. Please could this be confirmed or denied? And if so, could you tell me why there is this bounty? If there is any misunderstanding that can be cleared up, I'm sure she would be pleased about that.
